So far in the NBA Playoffs, we’ve seen fans:
• Spit at a player
• Pour popcorn on a player
• Throw a water bottle at a player
• Run on the court and touch the backboard
What’s a solution to stop NBA fans from acting out? 🤔 buff.ly/3i8vx2u pic.twitter.com/jiSB1t0ODl 5/31/21, 7:15 PM

The Falcons continue to field calls from teams interested in trading for Julio Jones. The Seahawks have had discussions about a possible trade with Atlanta, per sources. In fact, QB Russell Wilson & Julio Jones have spoken to discuss the possibility of playing together. |

-JUNE 1 CHANGES THINGS....
JULIO - PER BREER-
So if the Falcons deal him today, the money hits their cap all at once—and they take $23.25 million in dead money on to their 2021 cap, which is actually more than the cap hit for keeping him on the roster ($23.05 million). But if they do it tomorrow? Then, $7.75 million in dead money sits on their cap for this year, and $15.5 million left over (the 2022 and ’23 prorations) hits the cap next year, and the Falcons move the $15.3 million he’s due in cash off this year’s cap, which would allow them the space to sign their draft picks and still have some breathing room left over. I know that’s a lot of math. But it’s the simplest way I could figure, to properly explain what all this June 1 business you get every year means.
ANDREW BRANDT ON MONEY FOR NEW TEAM
The Falcons now have to deal with the consequences of a massive contractual mistake. They negotiated an extension with Jones in 2019, putting him at the top of the wide receiver market at $22 million a year with $64 million guaranteed. Those extension years start in … 2021!
I know I am a broken record with the shaking of my head at massive contract mistakes like those made with Jared Goff and Carson Wentz, but here is another. The Falcons will trade Jones and take on $17.5 million in a dead-cap charge this year and another $7.75 million next year while he plays for another team. The 2019 extension has become a disastrous contract decision by the Falcons, one for which they will pay the price for another 18 months. The NFL cap does not forgive.
As for Jones’s new team, it will inherit only Jones’s $15.3 million salary, or maybe less. If the Falcons want to gain better draft compensation, they could pay some of that money—in the form of a bonus before the trade—to lower the new team’s obligation and garner a better draft pick. We saw this last month when the Panthers gave Teddy Bridgewater a $7 million parting gift before trading him to the Broncos.
REALITY IS — 49ERS NEED JULIO —
(BRANCH)
The reality is the 49ers have two promising young players who headline the position — Brandon Aiyuk and Deebo Samuel — and 10 other wideouts, none of whom is a lock to make the 53-man roster. Consider: Those 10 wideouts, a group that includes undrafted rookie Austin Watkins, combined for 48 receptions and 683 yards last season (Aiyuk’s 2020 totals: 60 catches, 748 yards).
Perhaps the 49ers will make a strong push to trade for All-Pro wide receiver Julio Jones, 32, who is being shopped by the Falcons. A deal could come together this week because Wednesday is the first day Atlanta could trade Jones and split his significant salary-cap charge between the 2021 and 2022 seasons. But if Jones isn’t walking through that door, the 49ers likely will look to a few lesser lights to produce behind Aiyuk and Samuel.
Here are five leading candidates, with reasons why each could contribute this season — or be cut before it begins.

-BENJAMIN - BEST CANDIDATE
-RICHIE JAMES - INCONSISTENT / BEN HURT
-JAJUAN JENNINGS - NEVER BEN ACTIVE / HURT

| | | | | | Talks on a potential Zach Ertz trade have been ongoing for quite some time but fairly quiet of late. At least three TE-needy teams have looked into this. Eagles have made clear they won't part for nothing in return, making a release unlikely. Things could pick back up this week. | | 6/1/21, 6:41 AM |
