... As it stands now they’d lose tiebreaker with AZ (because of head-to-head loss; but teams play again 12/26). They’d lose to Vikings, too, because of Min’s better conference record. 12/6/20, 4:16 PM

WILL WILLIAMS RETURN?

Williams’ price tag might be too high for the 49ers. Last month, the Green Bay Packers agreed to a four-year contract extension with left tackle David Bakhtiari worth $105.5 million, making him the highest-paid offensive lineman in NFL history.

With contacts for several free agents -- including linebacker Fred Warner -- on the to-do list, paying Williams a comparable salary might not be feasible for the 49ers. Still, Williams has been clear that he would prefer to stay with San Francisco for the foreseeable future.

“Before I came here, that was one of the things I kind of had in my head that this could be a long-term destination for me and I’m very much ok with that,” Williams said Saturday. “Obviously that’s business that’s for 2021 and I just try to keep my mind on 2020 and try to get us to the big dance and try to make another run at it. The rest will take care of itself.”

Sherman: 2021 return not looking likely ..........( I COULD SEE A RETURN TO SEATTLE) - GRIFFIN, DUNBAR BAOTH FAS—LIVES THERE IN OFF SEASON

Sherman, who works as his own agent, told NBC Sports Bay Area on Saturday that the odds appear stacked against his return to the 49ers. The cornerback is nearing the completion of the three-year contract he signed with the organization in March 2018, just days after the Seattle Seahawks released him.

“We’ve had brief conversations,” Sherman said of contract talks with the 49ers. “I think that there’s obviously a want from both sides to come back and make this work. Unfortunately, I don’t know that the circumstances will allow it.

“That’s the sad, sad truth. It’s one of those years where it’s not from anybody’s fault that it may not work out. And it will be a sad parting because I’ve really enjoyed my time here. I’ve enjoyed this team. I have brothers on this team, and I think we still have work to do. But I don’t know that the circumstances will allow it.”

-NO WEED TESTING THIS SEASON IN NBA...

3- GIANTS:

NO NL DH IN 2021???

On the Giants' YouTube show Thursday night, president of baseball operations Farhan Zaidi said there still isn't final word about whether the universal designated hitter will remain, but indicated that the league is leaning against it. MLB and the MLBPA have not come to any decisions, but team officials have been briefed behind the scenes in recent weeks.

"We've been told to plan as if we're not going to have it," Zaidi said of the designated hitter. "Again, it was really something that was just put in place for 2020 given the unusual nature of the season. We weren't planning for a DH in 2020 and we actually wound up getting pretty good production out of the position, so I think the plan would be the same.

"Hopefully we're ready with it but we're planning and I think we're assuming it's not going to be in place. At least for one more year, we may be back to old-style NL baseball."
