There are no instances in the postseason where a relief pitcher threw at least 49 pitches and then came back on 0 days rest to get a 1-inning save since 2000 (H/T @EliasSports) pic.twitter.com/vwPrbQDLMd 10/1/20, 4:55 PM

JOHN SHEA ON LAUREANU MIC’D UP:
Yes, the latest in-game TV interview momentarily cost the A’s. Center fielder Ramón Laureano, while charging Luis Robert’s RBI single, checked his earpiece before starting his sprint to the ball, then made an errant throw. Cutoff man Matt Olson had to lunge for it and dropped it, allowing Robert to take second base. Moments later, he easily scored on Nomar Mazara’s double to left-center.
• Laureano put so much into his throw that he left his feet and fell. He said seconds later in the interview it’s rare when he hits the deck on throws to the plate, when he doesn’t need to twist his body. “I mostly do it to third base depending on how close I am,” he said, reaffirming he was a bit off-kilter.
ESPN’s Dave Flemming responded to the social-media criticism: “I know it makes some people uncomfortable. I think it’s worth saying out loud that we ask the players nicely. The players’ union, Major League Baseball have encouraged players, even in playoff games, to be willing and volunteer. Ramon wanted to do it. He told us (before Robert’s single) we should do it more often when we were on the air. I know it makes people cringe especially when he’s in the middle of all the action and we’re talking to him, but it is an insight that is hard to get in any other way in any other sports broadcast.”
• Former A’s pitcher Brett Anderson tweeted: “Players getting interviewed on the field during playoff games is lunacy.” Dodgers manager Dave Roberts agrees. A day after Justin Turner got interviewed during a game, Roberts banned his players from further shenanigans.
GOOD PIECE— DOES HATING ON FIELD INTERVIEWS MAKE ME A GRUMP??
MARCUS THOMPSON: To be clear, I'm a journalist. I'm a writer. I'm not an athlete (obviously) or an employee. I'm never going to champion against access. If they give me too much, that's on them
SUSAN SLUSSER HATES IT...
It’s rare to be able to pinpoint the precise second when your youth officially faded, but I think I can identify the day I got old: October 1, 2020. For me, the moment wasn’t one of the classics, like finding a first gray hair, looking forward to falling asleep early, or not knowing the names of any artists on an album of the year list. The Reaper appeared to me in the top of the third inning of the winner-take-all wild-card game between the Oakland Athletics and Chicago White Sox. That was when I, like legions of white guys before me, first experienced a strong urge to say “Back in my day” while watching a baseball game.
This unwelcome reminder that we will all turn into our dads and one day die invaded my mind during an on-air interview conducted by ESPN broadcasters Dave Flemming and Jessica Mendoza. For half an inning on Thursday, Flemming and Mendoza talked to A’s center fielder Ramón Laureano, whileLaureano played center field in a playoff elimination game that his team was trailing. As the White Sox rallied to tack on two runs to a lead that the eventually victorious A’s would later overcome, the 26-year-old Laureano alternated between fielding baseballs and fielding softballs from the booth, sometimes within the same labored breath. I like baseball, I like Laureano, and I like innovative attempts to promote players and combat baseball’s reputation as a faceless, fuddy-duddy sport. I do not, it turns out, like live, on-field interviews in consequential games.

LYNCH ON INJURIES ON MURPH AND MAC:
John Lynch on #49ers QB Sunday: "A lot will be told by our practice today; don't have the answer yet. Jimmy still has a chance; he'll have to show he can move around, protect himself. Kyle said it:
When healthy, this is Jimmy's team."

RB Raheem Mostert (knee)
