Trevor Bauer's eight innings of one-run ball -- with 12 strikeouts -- on three days' rest might have been overshadowed by the statement he made AFTER the game. usatoday.com/sto | |||||

Leveraged ERA: 4.62
Key rankings: Strikeouts: 10 | Walks: 10 | K:BB: 11 | Homers: 11
Probable starters: Kevin Gausman, Johnny Cueto, Drew Smyly, Tyler Anderson
Key relievers: Tony Watson, Tyler Rogers, Jarlin Garcia, Sam Coonrod, Sam Selman
The Giants have a deep bullpen long on options, if a bit short on dominance. The rotation gets a boost from Kevin Gausman, who missed a couple of turns but was very good in his last outing. Then his elbow tenderness resurfaced. San Francisco needs Gausman intact if they do survive the regular season because he's the Giants starter most likely to match the output of an opposing ace.
OFFNESE: 10TH OF 10 IN NL....

It's hard to see how a forecasting season would like the Giants, given the number of on-the-downside hitters in their regular lineup. Such systems also cast a wary virtual eye at out-of-nowhere producers such as Mike Yastrzemski, Donovan Solano and Alex Dickerson. However, the Giants rank fifth in the NL by OPS+ by adhering to their systems, not ours.

Turner Sports will continue broadcasting Major League Baseball after agreeing to an extension of rights through the 2028 season.
The seven-year agreement will take effect in 2022 and includes a Tuesday night game as well as additional postseason games. It also includes expanded digital rights for Bleacher Report and other WarnerMedia platforms.
This is the second of the three rights deals that MLB has extended. It reached an extension with Fox two years ago that also runs through 2028. Commissioner Rob Manfred said negotiations with ESPN are ongoing about renewing that network's deal beyond the 2021 season.
The Fox and Turner deals are similar in that each includes an increase over 40% when they begin in 2022. Turner will pay an average of $470 million per season.
"The commitment to baseball from Turner is as strong today as it has ever been," WarnerMedia Sports and News chairman Jeff Zucker said. "Our strategy is to present premium live sports, and obviously extending our deal was an important pillar."
While the increased playoff games carry their own value, Zucker did say the deal would not have been reached if there wasn't an expansion of the digital rights. The increased use of MLB footage and highlights for Bleacher Report could attract a younger audience, which baseball has struggled to build.
"The digital rights only used to be a language issue in the contracts but now they are substantive, economic rights," Manfred said. "It was with Fox, it is with ESPN and it was significant in this deal. It is a recognition of the way the world now consumes entertainment."
NFL:
FOX NFL RIGHTS FEEDS COULD NEARLY DOUBLE:
Fox Corp. is willing to spend as much as $2 billion a year to maintain its rights to National Football League games on Sundays, a huge increase from its current contract, according to people familiar with the matter.
… Talks between the league and the networks are already underway, but at an early stage, Fox Chief Executive Officer Lachlan Murdoch told investors this month.
“The NFL has asked, I think, all the broadcasters to think about every package, and to think how would we monetize packages that we currently have or other packages differently,” Murdoch said. “So, we’re looking at all sorts of options.”
…Other networks are interested in the Fox games and have been pressing the league to reconfigure the rights to allow them to air some of them, according to the people, who asked not to be identified because the negotiations are private.
A boost from $1.08 billion a year for the Fox Sunday package to $2 billion would be huge, but it would fit with the general projections from an anonymous network executive to CNBC in December 2019, which suggested that the NFL could see average annual payouts of $8 to 10 billion a year under its next media deals (up from the current more than $5.2 billion if you don’t count Verizon and Amazon’s streaming-only deals, or more than $5.7 billion if you do count them). The Fox Sunday package rising from $1.08 billion to $2 billion would suggest that other packages are likely to significantly rise also, and that would do a lot towards getting the NFL to that $8 to $10 billion annually.
