On a neutral court, what's the spread?

ACTION: WARRIORS 88% OF BEST AT -7, 241.5--

Betting Trends to Know

With DeMarcus Cousins expected to return tonight, the Warriors have moved from 5.5- to 7-point favorites. Nearly 90% of spread tickets and dollars are on Golden State at the time of writing (see live betting data here).
Since 2015, when we began tracking spread dollar percentages, if a team is receiving 30% or less of tickets and dollars and sees the line move one or more points against them (Clippers +5.5 to +7), they have gone 94-56-3 (63%) ATS.
Plus, there’s this: Under Steve Kerr, when the Warriors receive 70% or more of spread tickets, they have gone 77-91-4 (45.8%) ATS in the regular season. — John Ewing
History tells us tonight is going to be a close one. The Warriors have won six straight games; the Clippers have lost four straight games.
Under Kerr, when Golden State has played a game in this spot (GSW on a six-game win streak, opponent on four-plus losing streak) 10 times, and the Warriors are 10-0 straight-up but just 4-6 ATS, with almost every single game coming within a few points of the spread. — Evan Abrams
he last nine games between the Clippers and Warriors have gone over the total by 16.4 points per game, although none of those nine games had a total higher than 234.5. — Evan Abrams
Here’s a fun fact: Tonight’s total of 241.5 will be the ninth over/under of 240 or higher just this season; there were eight over/unders of 240 points or higher in the 20 years prior to this season. — Abrams

HOW WOULD YOU RANK POSSIBLE SB MATCH UPS BASED ON WATCH ABILITY:

regarding the prospect of topping Super Bowl XLIX:
  1. Patriots-Saints: The NFL historically markets its product through quarterbacks and this would be a meeting of two future Hall of Famers (Tom Brady and Drew Brees), two of most popular players in the sport, and two teams that have been significant television draws over the years. Brady and Brees have met just five times since 2002, so there is also a scarcity factor which is good. Like most dynasties, the Patriots are polarizing; again, great for TV. I think there is a less than 50 percent chance this matchup can surpass the 114.4 million mark but Pats-Saints is the best chance to set a new record.
  2. Patriots-Rams: This game would feature the No. 2  media market in the country (Los Angeles is historically not a great sports viewership market for its size but this would be the first L.A.-based team to appear in a Super Bowl since 1984) against one of the league’s biggest television draws and a Top 10 market as well (Boston is No. 9, according to Nielsen). It would pit the best quarterback of all time (Brady) against one of the league’s young stars (Jared Goff). The coaches also present excellent storylines heading in.
  3. Chiefs-Rams: A rematch of the most electric game of the regular season — a 54-51 Rams win on Nov. 19 in Los Angeles. That game featured 14 touchdowns and a go-ahead score with 1:49 to play. It would highlight two terrific young quarterbacks including the likely MVP in Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes. Plus, it would be Kansas City’s first Super Bowl appearance in 49 years. The first game was incredible to watch.
  4. Chiefs-Saints: Great optics and storylines: A touchdown-throwing young gun (Mahomes) against a touchdown-throwing old gun (Brees). The promise of a ton of points. Downsides: Kansas City is the No. 32 TV market in the country and New Orleans is No. 50. Upsides: Both markets over-index their market size given the fervor of each city’s NFL fandom.

-HOW IS ATLANTA'S MAYORS REMARKS ON SAINTS OFFENSIVE? SNOWFLAKE SOCIETY

Atlanta mayor: ‘Anybody other than the Saints’

Here was Bottoms’ initial comment, made to Terrell Thomas of These Urban Times. And extra credit for the callback to the Saints’ “bountygate” scandal.
“Just anybody other than the Saints. I know there’s going to be a bounty on my head for saying that,” Bottoms said. “But, if it can’t be the Falcons, then hey, as long as it’s not the Saints then I am happy.”
And, proving that New Orleans understands where she was coming from, New Orleans City Councilman Jay Banks shot back and referenced the Falcons blowing a 28-3 lead to the Patriots in Super Bowl LI.
“I’m sorry she feels that way. We would welcome them here,” Banks told the New Orleans Advocate. “At the end of the day they shouldn’t be mad at us that they suck.
“It’s not our fault that they choked.”
If you can’t appreciate the back-and-forth, you likely aren’t a sports fan. But Bottoms, being a politician, had to clarify her comments.

Atlanta mayor welcomes all fans, even Saints fans

Bottoms joked at the start of a press conference that she needed “extra security because of these New Orleans fans that I seemed to have offended.”
“So before we get to the real stuff, let me explain: it was a joke,” she said, according to WWL. “But I don’t know of a Falcons fan who wants to see New Orleans and the Patriots in the Super Bowl.”
Bottoms then said she was thankful for everyone who would come to Atlanta for the Super Bowl. Even Saints fans.
The possibility of the Saints invading Atlanta for a Super Bowl, and even using the Falcons facilities for the week as NFC champs, is a fun twist to the old rivalry. Bottoms has nothing to explain; we all know who Atlanta will be rooting for in the Super Bowl if the Saints win on Sunday.

EVAN LONGORIA VIA TWITTER:  (GIANTS / GRAY ) NOTHING

We are less then a month from the start of spring and once again some of our games biggest starts remain unsigned. Such a shame. It’s seems every day now someone is making up a new analytical tool to devalue players, especially free agents. As fans, why should “value” for your team even be a consideration? It’s not your money, it’s money that players have worked their whole lives to get to that level and be deserving of. Bottom line, fans should want the best players and product on the field for their team. And as players we need to stand strong for what we believe we are worth and continue to fight for the rights we have fought for time and time again.

-ROSENTHAL ON ISSUES FACING BASEBALL

Rosenthal: For the good of the sport, Tony Clark needs to lead the players to a compromise solution on improving the game

SPENDING:

The players, mind you, are not wrong in their ongoing frustration about certain teams not competing to the fullest. Teams say they are smarter. Players believe the clubs are squeezing too hard. As of Wednesday, all but three clubs were under the $206 million luxury-tax threshold, according to unofficial figures. Nineteen were at least $50 million under, 17 were at least $75 million under and nine were at least under $100 million under.

The solution, for now, is for the union to work around the edges of the CBA, propose non-economic measures that might spur competition – perhaps adjustments to the draft based upon team performance, perhaps a deadline of sorts on free agency, perhaps other things. The union, pending approval from the players, intends to introduce not only such measures, but also a broader plan that includes suggestions on how to enhance the on-field product, sources say.

-STARK EXPLAINS REASON FOR CLEMENS, BONDS AS GOOD AS YOU CAN

Stark: My Hall of Fame ballot (this year, it's personal)

The Bonds and Clemens Show

Why do I vote for Barry Bonds and Roger Clemens? It’s not that hard to follow.
The PED era happened. All of it. Somehow or other, the Hall of Fame needs to find a way to acknowledge that it happened.
I don’t know of anybody who is naïve enough to think we haven’t already elected multiple PED users to the Hall of Fame. So how can we have a Hall of Fame that slams the door on the hitter who mashed more home runs than anybody in history and on the pitcher who won more Cy Youngs than any pitcher who ever lived?
I’m not thrilled about the idea of electing players who “cheated.” I’d love to keep the “cheaters” out of the Hall. But how exactly could we do that? Hundreds of players used some sort of PED back in the day. Hundreds. It’s not as if baseball has ever furnished us a list.
Once testing was in place and guys got caught and suspended, that’s a whole different era. But evaluating anything and everything before that is just an elaborate, impossible guessing game – and one we’ve already messed up.
So my policy is simple. I vote for the greatest players of that era. I factor in a different set of standards for players in the post-testing era. I factor in the whole ballot-management mess I explained earlier. But for the best of the best – men like Bonds and Clemens? I feel like my job is to vote for them – and it’s the Hall of Fame’s job to decide how to explain what happened in their time if they ever get elected.
Maybe their induction day is coming. Maybe it isn’t. They’re both at 76 percent in the latest Tracker computations. They both have three elections remaining after this. So we’ll be having this conversation again next year this time.
All I know is, I quit my gig with the morality police force a long time ago. I had no shot of getting that assignment right. But who were the best player and pitcher of the ‘90s? I know I got that one right – and you can find the answers on my ballot every darned year.
