-Why wouldn't Chip leave? Harbaugh is making $9M at Michigan this year, #1 in CFB....Was making $5M to coach 49ers, (5-25), Kelly is making 6M per year, signed a 4-24M ....(Signed 5-32M to coach Eagles)

-There were some questions about Trent Baalke's future with the San Francisco 49ers, as well as his contract status, and we have some clarity. Baalke was signed through the 2016 season, but Matt Maiocco is now reporting Baalke actually signed a new contract that has him signed through the 2018 season. Maiocco reported the extension was meant to line his contract up with that of Jim Tomsula.

Jan 4, 2016: (CSN)

While explaining why he decided to fire coach Jim Tomsula after one season, 49ers CEO Jed York on Monday expressed confidence general manager Trent Baalke is the person to hire the next head coach and reconstruct the roster.
“Trent understands that I’m not satisfied with the current state of this team,” York said Monday during a 30-minute press conference at Levi’s Stadium. “Trent’s role is to find the next head coach and continue to build this roster and get us back to championship form.”
Baalke has spent the past 11 years with the 49ers with the past five in the role of general manager. He was named NFL Executive of the Year in 2011. But the 49ers had a disastrous 2012 draft, and Baalke’s player selections have netted few playmakers in recent seasons.
“I’ve seen Trent build a championship-caliber roster, in his time as director of player personnel (and) in his time as general manager,” York said. “I believe in Trent’s ability. We have a lot of opportunity in front of us.”
Baalke has three years remaining on his contract --  the same time remaining as Tomsula, who signed a four-year, $14 million contract last January. Tomsula will receive the remaining $10.5 million on his deal.
Baalke is currently signed through the 2018 season, CSNBayArea.com has learned. Baalke and the 49ers agreed to another contract since the team announced in February 2012 he signed a three-year extension through the 2016 season.
The 49ers expect to have 12 draft picks, including the No. 7 overall selection after finishing the season with a 5-11 record. The 49ers will have as much cap space as any team in the league.
“We haven’t been the most active in free agency in years past,” York said. “We need to figure out what the right talent is outside of this building and what the right talent is inside of this building and make sure we knock it out of the park in this draft.”
Baalke was in charge of the process a year ago that led to the promotion of defensive line coach Tomsula to take over for Jim Harbaugh as head coach. Tomsula became only the eighth coach fired after just one NFL season since 2000.
“Unfortunately, I didn’t see this team improve collectively from the beginning of the season to the end,” York said. “That’s what ultimately led to this decision.”

RAIDERS:

-ALDON applies for reinstatement - Still just 27

Oakland general manager Reggie McKenzie told Vic Tafur of the San Francisco Chronicle that Smith has applied for reinstatement.
The pass rusher's one-year suspension for violating the NFL Policy and Program for Substances of Abuse expires on Nov. 17, meaning Smith could suit up this season pending a positive meeting with Commissioner Roger Goodell.
"'Aldon is doing well," McKenzie said Wednesday night, per Tafur. "That situation is going to be totally up to the league because he's been in the program and they've monitored him. It's up to Goodell to say yah, nay or when. And he could say no to everything ... that part is out of our hands."
Said McKenzie: "The league will take everything into consideration and Aldon will have to meet with Goodell at some point."
Smith's once-promising pro career has been sidetracked by a rash of off-the-field issues. The 27-year-old pass rusher has been arrested three times for DUI and entered a treatment center in July.
Smith signed with the Raiders before last season and registered 3.5 sacks before the ban. He previously served as a quarterback nightmare for the San Francisco 49ers, registering more sacks over the first two years of his career (33.5) than any other player in NFL history.

WILL SPORTS BETTTING EVER BE LEGAIL IN THE US? - SHOULD IT BE? IT WEED IS LEGAL ---WHY NOT SPORTS BETTING? ONLINE IS MAKING MONEY OFF IT , WY SHOULDN'T LOCAL AND FEDERAL GOVERNMENT?

Capitol Hill, the states and paths to legalization

The mainstream acceptance of sports betting is peaking. Cash-strapped states are starting to see sports betting a potential source of revenue more than a detriment to society. The point spread and betting action in Las Vegas are now popular storylines for every big game, and for the first time, a commissioner of a major professional sports league has come out in support of legalizing sports betting. There simply has never been this much momentum to legalize sports betting outside of Nevada.
But momentum and definitive results are two very different things. As of now, state-sponsored gambling is illegal outside of a handful of states, with single-game wagering permitted only in Nevada.

Some in the U.S. government feel it's time for a change and that the current federal gambling laws --most notably the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act of 1992 (PASPA), Wire Act of 1961 and the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act of 2006 -- aren't appropriate anymore and need updating.
