Two teens were arrested this week in connection with an attempted armed robbery in August where NFL player Brian Robinson Jr. sustained two gunshot wounds, the Metropolitan Police Department said in statement.
A 17-year-old suspect was arrested on Wednesday and a 15-year-old suspect was arrested on Friday. Both have been charged with assault with the intent to rob while armed with a gun, according to a MPD statement.
Both suspects are male. They were 16-years-old and 14-years-old, respectively, at the time of the incident, police said.
Robinson, a Washington Commanders rookie running back, underwent surgery for non-life-threatening injuries after being shot on August 28, in Washington, DC.
The shooters had allegedly approached Robinson around 5:28 p.m. with a gun and tried to rob him, according to the police statement.
“During the robbery attempt, the suspects fired their handguns, striking the victim. The suspects fled the scene in a vehicle without obtaining any property,” police said at the time of the incident.
Robinson suffered two gunshot wounds to his lower extremities and was taken to a local hospital. The two juveniles fled the scene, and officers recovered a firearm nearby, police said.
49ers radio analyst Tim Ryans says on KNBR thar Ricky Pearsall was at team facility and in weight room yesterday, told him and others how Saturday’s shooting went down.
Tim: “I won’t get into the personal details, he understands a higher power was at work”

NFL NATION ON ESPN HAS 49ERS #1 —
1. San Francisco 49ers
FPI's overall ranking: No. 1
Chances to win division: 67.9%
Chances to make the playoffs: 85.6%
Projected wins: 11
Strength of schedule: 11th hardest
Biggest strength: Most of the defending NFC champions' roster returns, including the potential for all 11 offensive starters to play. The Niners were one of the league's most dominant teams in 2023, and their offense -- No. 1 in points per game, efficiency and EPA -- could still improve because it finally has stability at quarterback with Brock Purdy for a full offseason. The Niners know this could be the last chance for this nucleus of stars to win a Super Bowl together. -- Nick Wagoner
Biggest concern: Overall depth. The Niners were hit hard by preseason injuries, but few of the ones affecting key players appear to be long-term issues. If injuries hit them during the regular season, it's fair to wonder if the Niners have the depth needed to sustain their success. A lack of top-end draft picks the past three years has made this a top-heavy roster. That hasn't bitten the Niners yet, but depth --- especially on the offensive and defensive lines -- is where that could be felt if injuries do arise. -- Wagoner
Stat to know: There have been only three teams to win the Super Bowl the season after losing it (2018 Patriots, 1972 Dolphins, 1971 Cowboys). However, none of the Super Bowl losers in the past five years has reached the title game the next season (Eagles, Bengals, Chiefs, Rams), including the 49ers, who missed the playoffs in the 2020 season (6-10) after reaching the Super Bowl the year before.
Fantasy sleeper candidate: WR Jauan Jennings. A receiver who is more than willing to do the dirty work in the run game, Jennings is also a refined route runner who can produce in critical game situations. Over the past two seasons, Jennings has logged 54 receptions, but 35 of those went for first downs. If Brandon Aiyuk or Deebo Samuel Sr.were to miss time, Jennings would elevate into a volume role in Kyle Shanahan's schemed pass game. -- Matt Bowen
Bold prediction for 2024: The 49ers' middling offensive line play will catch up to them and they'll fall out of the top four offenses in the league (in terms of expected points added per play) as a result. The only lineman they can feel great about is left tackle Trent Williams, and even he carries risk, given that he's 36 years old and currently holding out. Left guard Aaron Banks, center Jake Brendel, right guard Spencer Burford and right tackle Colton McKivitz all showed weakness in either run or pass block win rate last season. -- Seth Walder

MORE 49ERS:
NUMBERS:
Cornerback Renardo Green, safety Malik Mustapha, wide receiver Jacob Cowing and running back Isaac Guerendo all made number changes ahead of the team’s Tuesday bonus practice according to the Athletic’s Matt Barrows.
Green, who rocked No. 31 during the preseason, changed his number to 0. That jersey was previously worn by CB Samuel Womack, who was waived at final cuts. The Indianapolis Colts claimed him off waivers.
That jersey number has only ever been worn by Womack in 49ers history. He began wearing it last season when the NFL changed its jersey number rules.
Mustapha wore No. 43 in the preseason, a traditional safety number. He will now wear No. 6 in the regular season. He joins Deommodore Lenoir and Charvarius Ward as players wearing single digits in the 49ers secondary. Safeties Talanoa Hufanga and Ji’Ayir Brown wear 29 and 27, respectively.
Cowing was another player who wore a traditional number for his position in camp. His preseason jersey number was 83. He’ll now wear No. 19, which was most recently worn by WR Deebo Samuel. Samuel changed to No. 1 this offseason.
During camp, veteran WR Trent Taylor rocked the No. 19 jersey. He was released and then re-signed to the practice squad. His new numbers is 81 since he didn’t retain his jersey number after camp because of his release.
Perhaps the most notable change is Guerendo, who wore No. 49 in the preseason. That is an objectively atrocious number for a running back. He’s now wearing No. 31 – still not great, but better than 49.
Green and RB Ke’Shawn Vaughn were both No. 31 in camp. Vaughn was waived and re-signed to the practice squad. Green, of course, relinquished 31 to take No. 0.
We may see plenty of these jerseys on the field in the season opener on Sept. 9. Green could be the team’s starting slot corner, while Guerendo and Cowing could both start as returners on special teams.
The rest of the rookie class will apparently retain their numbers. First-round pick Ricky Pearsall is No. 14, third-round pick Dominick Puni is No. 77, and seventh-round pick Tatum Bethune will stay with No. 48.
In all, 13 coaches received votes, and it's worth mentioning with a smile that some quarterbacks might have used their vote to support someone with whom they've worked closely.
Final results:
Kyle Shanahan, 49ers: 12
Andy Reid, Chiefs: 8
Mike McDaniel, Dolphins: 3
Sean McVay, Rams: 3
Brian Callahan, Titans: 1
Matt LaFleur, Packers: 1
Mike McCarthy, Cowboys: 1
Kevin O'Connell, Vikings: 1
Sean Payton, Broncos: 1
Arthur Smith, Steelers OC: 1
Shane Steichen, Colts: 1
Zac Taylor, Bengals: 1
Alex Van Pelt, Patriots OC: 1
I ODNT CARE ABOUT NOT DRAFTING AARON ROGERS ANYMORE…
| ||||||||||||||||||||||||
Now in his second season with the Jets, for whom he took only four snaps in 2023 before suffering the worst injury of his career, the 40-year-old Rodgers is trying to make more history. Fittingly, he’ll be back in the Bay to begin the 2024 regular season — on “Monday Night Football,” the same platform upon which he tore his Achilles on the other side of the country a year ago.
There’s a lot on the line for Rodgers, who hopes to join Peyton Manning and Tom Brady as the only quarterbacks to start and win Super Bowls for two different franchises. Though he has long been based in the L.A. area during his offseasons, the Chico native still has great affection for the northern part of the state.
His sentimental pull toward the region has taunted him at times. Three years ago, for a brief stretch, Rodgers could legitimately ponder the possibility of finishing his career in a 49ers uniform.
Following the Packers’ shocking loss to Brady and the Buccaneers at Lambeau Field in the NFC Championship Game in January 2021, Rodgers, fresh off his third MVP season, became estranged from his longtime employers. He requested a trade during the spring, with the 49ers as one of his preferred targets.
Instead, with coach Kyle Shanahan looking to move on from starting quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo, the Niners sent three first-round picks to Miami to acquire the third overall selection in the 2021 draft, ultimately choosing Trey Lance as Garoppolo’s heir apparent.
Even in the hours leading up to Lance’s selection, however, there was national buzz that Rodgers might be dealt to the 49ers. As documented in my upcoming book, “The Why Is Everything,” the Niners’ interest in Rodgers fractured the relationship between Shanahan and one of his friends and former assistants, Green Bay coach Matt LaFleur, though it has since been repaired.
“I thought there was a slim, slim possibility,” he said. “I just didn’t really ever think the Packers would trade me within the conference. There seemed to be some kismet (as) in ’05, with me being from Northern California, and San Fran. And as much as it seemed like not the front end of my career, but now the twilight of my career, going back home to my childhood team would have been some fated circumstance, it never really felt like it was gonna be a reality.”
The Packers, it turned out, weren’t about to trade him to anyone. They held onto Rodgers, temporarily repaired the relationship (with the help of a massive contract extension) and kept him for two more seasons — one that saw him earn his fourth MVP, the other a choppy campaign that ended a game short of a playoff berth.
By the time Green Bay was finally willing to deal him in spring 2023, Shanahan and the Niners had moved forward with Brock Purdy.
Though it presumably will never happen, Rodgers does wonder how a collaboration with Shanahan would have played out. Stylistically, it could have been challenging. Rodgers knows this from experience — specifically, from the transition he made in 2019, when LaFleur was hired in Green Bay.
After spending most of his career in an offense conceived by McCarthy (who left the Niners after that ’05 season to become the Packers’ coach), one that gave him great latitude at the line of scrimmage, Rodgers was asked to adapt to a scheme that restricted those options. The “Audible Thing,” as LaFleur dubbed it to me shortly after taking the job, took a full season to navigate.
Shanahan, LaFleur’s mentor, is arguably even more exacting when it comes to his expectations for the quarterback’s reads, decisions and processes. Could these two headstrong, highly accomplished competitors have vibed and thrived as coach/play-caller and QB?
“I mean, I’ve thought about that from time to time, and I’ve had conversations with people who think that’s an interesting idea,” Rodgers said, smiling. “I don’t know; it’s one of those ‘what if?’ things. He is a phenomenal play-caller. I think he’s a fantastic coach. I think anything can work if two people can find a common ground. The common ground for great relationships is respect.
“So, even though Kyle seems to be — I don’t know what the right word is, ’cause I’m kind of speaking out of turn and don’t know him that well — but he seems to be very headstrong, which I think is a phenomenal attribute. It’s almost like, had that imaginary world happened, with his genius, what would you actually need to change? (I feel like) it would work because he’s a genius and I have a lot of years of experience.”
In his junior year at Cal, despite the team being ranked third in the country, the Bears were denied a Rose Bowl berth because of shady and improbable nuances of the then-BCS-governed selection procedure.
A few months later, in the wake of that command performance at Pro Day, Rodgers took a visit to 49ers headquarters and began to feel less secure about his coronation as the No. 1 overall pick.
“When I went to the Niners’ facility, I got time with Mike Nolan and Mike McCarthy separately,” Rodgers recalled. “With Mike (McCarthy) it was great, ’cause Mike knew the West Coast offense, so I was like totally, ‘Ah, man, Bill Walsh, Paul Hackett. …’ We were talking about Joe Montana ’cause he was with him, so it was such a fun meeting.
“And I kinda straight-up asked him, ‘What do you think?’ And my recollection is, ‘I think we’re gonna take you’ were his words. It’s been 20 years; whether or not that’s what was said, who knows? Maybe I wanted it to seem like that. But when I met with Mike Nolan, I didn’t feel like there was the same type of connection I had with Mike McCarthy. So I wasn’t super confident.”
