-NOW EPPI THE INTERPETER SAYS HE LIED TO THE ESPN REPORTER ALL TOGETHER - OHTANI KNEW NOTHING OF THE GAMBLING DEBT AND HE DID STEAL FROM HIM AND THE FIRST OHTANI HEARD ABOUT IT WAS IN THE MEETING AFTER THE FIRST GAME. - OHTANI WAS PIECING IT TOGETHER THROUGH ANOTHER INTERPETER WHO WAS IN THE ROOM.
(TISHA THOMPSON ESPN) - SO COULD YOU IMAGINE BEING OHTANI AND HAVING TO PIECE THIS TOGETHER AS THE OWNER OF THE DODGERS IS SAYING THIS IN ENGLISH AND HE HAS TO CALL ANOTHER INTERPETEUR OVER TO TELL HIM WHAT IS GOING ON IF THIS IS TRUE?)
After Wednesday's season-opening game in South Korea, Dodgers officials called a clubhouse meeting and told players a negative story was coming later in the day, a team official said, and Mizuhara apologized, saying he had a gambling addiction. It was then, the official said, that Ohtani understood for the first time what was happening and began asking questions.
When asked Wednesday if he had interpreted anything incorrectly on purpose, Mizuhara told ESPN, "No, I have never done that."
Mizuhara, when asked by ESPN on Wednesday afternoon if he had been accused of theft, said he was told he could not comment but declined to say by whom. He did not respond to a subsequent question about whether he had taken any money without Ohtani's knowledge.
The developments this week came as federal investigators are examining the operation run by Southern California bookmaker Mathew Bowyer. The wire-transfer payments were sent from Ohtani's account to an associate of Bowyer's, according to multiple sources and bank data reviewed by ESPN.
IRS spokesperson Scott Villiard confirmed to ESPN on Thursday night that it is investigating Mizuhara and Bowyer. There is no evidence that the IRS investigation was triggered by a request from Ohtani's representatives, and Villiard declined to answer whether it was.
Multiple sources, including Mizuhara, told ESPN that Ohtani does not gamble and that the funds covered Mizuhara's losses.
HERE’S ANOTHER THING:
THIS IS NOT THE FIRST TIME THIS HAS HAPENED :
IN 2015 —
MLB has concluded its investigation into allegations that Marlins right-hander Jarred Cosart gambled on sports, releasing the following statement:
The investigation did not reveal any evidence to suggest that Cosart, who fully cooperated with the investigation, bet on baseball. Cosart has received an undisclosed fine for violations of Major League Rule 21(d)(3) that were revealed during the investigation. Major League Rule 21(d)(3) prohibits players from placing bets with illegal book makers, or agents for illegal book makers. This rule is strictly enforced and applies to gambling with illegal bookmakers on any sport or event.
That’s a lot of legalese, but it seems to suggest MLB proved Cosart bet on other spots but did not bet on baseball.

#SFGiants say they’ll be the first MLB team to have spotlights — similar to what you’d see at an NBA arena.
Alex Cobb will throw 40 pitches today in a minor league game. Sean Hjelle will throw a bullpen tomorrow, a good step after being sidelined most of camp. Austin Slater is day-to-day with sore right elbow (the one he had surgery on), which could open the door for Luis Matos.

A- THE NUMBER ONE QUESTION ON HOW FAR THE WARRIORS CAN GO - CAN WIGGINS DO WHAT HE DID ON WEDNESDAY AGAIN TONIGHT AND FOR THE MAJORITY OF THE SEASON AND INTO THE PLAYOFFS?
NBA:
B-
2- GIANTS:
THIS IS THE QUESTION—-
WITH ALL THIS MONEY SPENT AND THE TYPE OF PLAYERS — I WOULD BE DISAPOINTED AND 83 WINS —- I THBINK IT’S PLAYOFFS OR BUST WHATEVER THAT TAKES OR FARHAN WILL BE GONE…..THAT’S THE LINE PLAYOFFS…
PER ROSENTHAL:
But how good is this team, really? Zaidi boldly predicted, “I think we can play with anybody,” while noting only time will tell. Maybe the Giants will turn into something of a force after Alex Cobb and eventually Robbie Ray return from injuries to join Snell, Logan Webb and top prospect Kyle Harrison in the rotation. Or maybe, in the highly competitive NL West, they will still end up fourth.
The latest PECOTA analysis shows the Giants winning 85 games, third only to the Dodgers and Braves in the NL. FanGraphs has them at 83 wins, tied with the Arizona Diamondbacks and St. Louis Cardinals and just behind the Philadelphia Phillies at 85.
Prior to Chapman signing on March 4, FanGraphs pegged the Giants for 80.7 wins. Before the Snell move, the number was 81.5. Now it’s 83.4. Injuries and other transactions factor into the adjustments of projected win totals, so it’s too simplistic to say Chapman added “x” number of wins and Snell “y.” But clearly, the Giants are a better team.
Projections, of course, are only so accurate, hinging as they do on injuries, trades and fluctuations in performance. But the Chapman and Snell signings put the Giants in better position to emerge from the nine teams that FanGraphs projects to win between 80 and 85 games. One of those teams will win the NL Central. The others will fight for the three wild cards.
A- IF THIS IS THE LINE UP — HOW GOOD CAN THEY BE?
THE ATHLETIC RANKS THE GIANTS LINE UP 19TH IN MLB:
The Giants were active this offseason and upgraded their lineup by signing center fielder Jung Hoo Lee, designated hitter Jorge Soler and third baseman Matt Chapman. Lee will improve their on-base percentage while Soler and Chapman will boost their right-handed power. The Giants have an average major-league player at every position except shortstop in their lineup.
THEY ARE ANYWHERE FROM DIVISON WINNERS TO 2ND WC TO ME AND GOOD ENOUGH TO WIN IT ALL—- ESPECIALLY IF FARHAN GETS ANOTHER BAT…..
AND BOB PLAYS FLORES AT 1B MOST OF THE TIME…
