JUNE TEENTH—

On June 19, 1865, enslaved African-Americans in Galveston, Texas, were told they were free. A century and a half later, people in cities and towns across the U.S. continue to celebrate the occasion.

On June 19, 1865, about two months after the Confederate general Robert E. Lee surrendered at Appomattox, Va., Gordon Granger, a Union general, arrived in Galveston, Texas, to inform enslaved African-Americans of their freedom and that the Civil War had ended. General Granger’s announcement put into effect the Emancipation Proclamation, which had been issued more than two and a half years earlier on Jan. 1, 1863, by President Abraham Lincoln.

I've never been a guy who's used it, and so I'm not too worried, and I feel our pitching staff in general is in a really good spot going forward." 6/17/21, 4:50 PM

The #SFGiants 6-7-8 hitters today were Curt Casali, Steven Duggar and Mauricio Dubón.

They combined to go 8-for-12 with a walk, five extra-base hits and 7 RBIs. 6/17/21, 3:51 PM

SUMMARY —

Gausman fired eight innings of two-run ball, and his batterymate, , homered and drove in four runs as the Giants routed the D-backs, 10-3, to finish off a four-game sweep on Thursday afternoon at Oracle Park.

Casali, Steven Duggar and Mauricio Dubón -- the club’s 6-7-8 hitters -- accounted for eight of the Giants’ 15 hits to help San Francisco improve to 6-0 against Arizona this season and 44-25 overall, the best record in the National League. It was an ignominious defeat for the D-backs, who became the first team in the Modern Era to lose 23 consecutive road games.

ZION MAY WANT OUT OF NEW ORLEANS?? SHOULD WARRIORS GIVE UP PICKS AND WISEMAN TO GET HIM?? - WISEMAN, BOTH 1’S…..

-HE’S LIMITED ON THE DEFENSIVE END — BUT HE’S 21 AND IF HE COULD DEVELOP ANY TYPE OF OUTSIDE GAME WOULD BE DEVISTATING….

-ZION, DRAYMOND, CURRY, KLAY ….

Parting ways with Stan Van Gundy after just one season is not the biggest problem facing the New Orleans Pelicans. They have been unable to put together the right elements to make rising star Zion Williamson and his family happy, and multiple sources have told The Athletic that certain family members want Williamson on another team.

For months, sources from all NBA corners have pointed to the Pelicans as a heap of dysfunction. There was a growing unease between Van Gundy and his players, and Van Gundy and the New Orleans front office, which came to a head Wednesday with the veteran coach and organization agreeing to part wayswith three years left on his contract. Most of the attention, however, from numerous sources across the league, has centered on Williamson’s family members’ thinly veiled unhappiness with the Pelicans, and whether those feelings seeped into the player’s own views.

At his end of season press conference, his frustrations were made evident. “It’s disappointing. I’d be lying to you if I said anything else,” Williamson said, when addressing the team’s performance this year. “It’s very disappointing. But the best thing we can do is regroup, come together as a team, come together as coaches this offseason, talk and do what we need to do to be better next year. It’s not much to it, we just gotta be better.”

The Pelicans control Williamson’s contract situation for at least three more years after making him the No. 1 overall pick of the 2019 draft. Those who know Williamson well say he just wants to win and compete at the highest level. They say he remains focused on basketball and helping New Orleans win next season. Over his first two seasons, Williamson has already established himself as an All-Star forward whose affable, carefree and passionate style on the court makes him a fan-favorite. A franchise that three seasons ago had to deal with Anthony Davis’ trade demands, which began with grumblings from Davis’ father, the Pelicans know not to misread the tea leaves here. No one as young and as inexperienced as Williamson has tried to force their way out via trade before. Across the league, however, it has become common practice among veteran NBA stars to do just that.

WARRIORS:

-I’D SAY C-  /. AVERAGE IS A C—- I THINK HE HAS A POTENTIAL — SO HOW COULD HE GET A B??
-IT WAS GENERALLY A DISASTER WITH SOME EXCITING MOMENTS…

I’d say probably a B-plus, I guess,” he told NBC Sports Bay Area. “Probably a B-plus, just because due to injuries and stuff. We get injured. That’s part of the game.

“But I’d say I did pretty good. I had a lot of ups and downs, but most of them were positive and I actually learned a lot this year.”

I then asked Wiseman what would have been required to give himself an A.

The NFL and NFLPA have agreed to updated COVID-19 protocols for 2021 training camp and preseason, per source.

How different will life by for vaccinated and unvaccinated players? From the memo that just went to clubs: pic.twitter.com/8yMPW0JBWZ

GET THE SHOT — MAKE LIFE EASY ON YOURSELF — LOOK AT THE SCIENCE— IT’S PART OF MAKING MILLIONS— IM SURE PLAYERS TAKE SHOTS OF WORSE… FOR PAIN

BUFFALO, N.Y. -- Buffalo Bills wide receiver Cole Beasley is not happy with the NFL and NFLPA's newly agreed-to COVID-19 protocols for training camp and the preseason, and he aired his concerns Thursday on Twitter.

The latest COVID-19 policy heavily restricts unvaccinated players while allowing vaccinated players to return to near normalcy.

Beasley, 32, placed equal blame on the NFL for prioritizing money over its players' freedom and the NFLPA for not supporting the players it represents.

"This is crazy. Did we vote on this?" he wrote in response to the list of protocols. "I stay in the hotel. We still have meetings. We will all be together. Vaccinated players can go out the hotel and bring covid back in to where I am. So what does it matter if I stay in the hotel now? 100 percent immune with vaccination? No.

The players association is a joke. Call it something different. It's not for the players," he added. "Everyone gives me the 98 percent of people who are vaccinated don't get covid again. The odds of me getting in the NFL and playing for 10 years are lower than that and I'm here."

The notable differences in the new policy include no daily testing for vaccinated players, who will also no longer be required to wear masks at the team's facility or during team travel. Vaccinated players will also have no travel restrictions, can use the sauna/steam room and weight room without capacity limits, and can interact with vaccinated friends and family during team travel.

Unvaccinated players will be required to test for COVID-19 every day and must wear masks throughout the team facility and during travel. They will also not be allowed to use the sauna/steam rooms, are subject to weight room capacity limits, and may not leave the team hotel to eat in restaurants or interact with anyone outside of the team traveling party during team travel.

Perhaps the biggest difference between the two sets of protocols -- unvaccinated players will be required to quarantine after high-risk exposure to COVID-19, while vaccinated players will not.

"So what are we really talking about? I understand completely why the NFL is doing this," Beasley wrote. "It gives them back the freedom to make the most money as possible again if everyone is vaccinated. But will anyone fight for the players or nah?"
