The #SFGiants' seven-run comeback was the largest deficit they've overcome since falling behind 8-0 before beating the Reds 12-11 in 11 innings on May 3, 2019.

Stephen Vogt was the hero for the Giants that night. Vogt was in the D'backs dugout tonight. 6/15/21, 10:31 PM

Dave Flemming’s call of the Yaz slam gave me the chills. His best call since Renteria’s HR in 2010? Or Cain’s perfecto? Or Romo’s strikeout to win the World Series in 2012?

I have an idea...

MLB:

-GLASNOW IS RIGHT - CAN’T CHNAGE RULES IN MIDDLE OF A SPORTS SEASON….
-TAKE THE OFF SEASON — COME UP WITH A GLOB SOLUTION ALL CAN GAREE ON AND USE….
-BASEBALL HANDLNG HORRIBLY….

Except for this year. Beginning in spring training, MLB informed teams that it would be studying the issue of foreign substances in the game. Earlier this month, the league signaled that new enforcement protocols were imminent. Proactively, Glasnow dropped the sticky stuff. In a June 8 start against the Nationals, he struck out 11 in seven innings without it.

But the next morning, he was “sore in places I didn’t even know I had muscles,” the right-hander said. He’d had to compensate for his lack of grip by holding his pitches differently. He held his fastball and his curveball deeper in his hand. His slider, which he used to hold “like an egg,” now requires a different approach. The soreness persisted into his next start, on Monday against the White Sox. In the fourth inning, he felt something tug. The next day, he was diagnosed with a partial tear of the ulnar collateral ligament. He hopes to be back by the playoffs.

He’s also mad as hell. The same day Glasnow received his diagnosis, MLB announced its new approach to foreign substances that will go into force next Monday. Mourning the loss of his season — “I want to go out and win a Cy Young and be an All-Star, and now it’s all just shit on,” he said — Glasnow let loose on MLB. Sticky stuff is a problem, Glasnow agrees. But he feels MLB is taking the wrong steps, at the wrong time, to address it.

“I am telling you,” Glasnow said about pitching without a grip enhancer, “I truly believe that’s why I got hurt.”

Glasnow is hardly the only one in baseball with opinions about Tuesday’s announcement. Some welcome the league’s commitment to actually enforce a rule that has been in the rulebook for a century. Others, like Glasnow, took issue with MLB’s decision to change the playing conditions in the middle of the season. And more, also like Glasnow, bemoaned that there was no exception made for the mixture of sunscreen and rosin, which pitchers say they use to help with grip, not to get a competitive advantage.
