Ramos is still just 21, since he was only 17 when the Giants took him in the first round in 2017, and should start this year in Double A after spending the tail end of the summer of 2019 at that level, which puts him on track for a debut when he’s 22. He’s an aggressive hitter who can be all-or-nothing at the plate, with good enough hand-eye coordination that he’ll hit for some average and plus power even with a high strikeout rate. Ramos has mostly played center in pro ball, but he has already put a lot of muscle on his 6-foot frame, and he’s going to have to move to a corner in the majors — probably left field, given how large right field is in San Francisco — but he has 30-homer power and I think enough hard contact in his approach to profile as an above-average regular there.
Patrick Bailey, C. 5/ NR
Bailey was the Giants’ first-round pick in 2020, surprising some fans who assumed Bart was the team’s catcher of the future. But Bailey was among the best players available at the pick, and there’s really no such thing as having too much catching — especially with no other catching prospects in the system behind Bart. Bailey is a well-rounded player with no 7s on his scouting report but a lot of above-average tools, a switch-hitter with real power, an above-average glove and an average arm. The one big knock on him is that he has never really hit for average, but he also doesn’t strike out too often and walks at a good clip. He looks like a potential 55 regular, with OBPs and power above the median for a catcher and enough defense there to be at least average.
Hunter Bishop, OF. 6/ NR
Bishop posts enormous exit velocities and has 30-plus homer power along with plus speed, but he’s raw like a teenaged prospect even though he was a college draft pick, taken in the first round in 2019 out of Arizona State. He swings and misses more than he should given his bat speed and age, and his reads in the outfield are poor enough that he’s a left fielder despite his running ability. He’s built like a safety, though, and is inexperienced enough that you can reasonably project more skill growth for him than you would for most 22-year-olds. He’s a platoon outfielder as is but has that power projection and at least the physical ability to end up a plus defender in left to become an above-average regular.

One of those factors, according to Posey is the shift, and it’s something he told Tolbert, Krueger and Brooks on Thursday that he’d like to see eliminated.
“I think you have to get rid of the shift, I feel very strongly about that,” Posey said on KNBR. “I just think that if a guy like Brandon Belt is at the plate and he hits a rocket that short hops the right fielder and the second baseman or third baseman is standing there and he’s out. He’s thinking alright “What’s the value in hitting the ball even remotely closely to the ground now? I’ve got to get the ball in the air.
“It’s easier said than done to just punch something to the left side. These guys are throwing 100 and they’re throwing it in spots that make it hard to do that. I always think about Brandon Crawford. If you’ve got Brandon Crawford playing a traditional position at shortstop, and a hard ground ball is hit up the middle, he’s got an opportunity now to make a diving play and show off his arm, but instead he’s already standing there, so it’s a routine ground ball and it’s not exciting.”
In 2020, the three true outcome rate of 36.1 was the highest in MLB history. That included a strikeout rate of 23.4% (highest ever), home run rate of 3.5% (second-highest ever) and walk rate of 9.2 (highest in the last 20 years). Put simply, more hitters than ever are going home run or bust.
“I think removing the shift would do a lot. I also think that the wristbands everybody wears, I don’t think those should be in the game. I think you should do that homework before the game. Because the data is just so good now, you can predict so much based on the guy on the mound, the guy at the plate, the ballpark, the weather conditions. Front office guys to their credit are so good at that, I think that’s part of why we are seeing the only option sometimes is to try to get the ball in the air.”

Here is where it stands. Both stocks have risen since draft night and either would be considered a crown jewel on the trade market. The Warriors’ decision not to trade out of the pick and instead select the player appears to be the correct one.
But Ball has had a better rookie season so far than Wiseman. Considering Ball’s style (and Green’s comfort in smaller units), it’s easier to envision him helping more right now and perhaps for the length of their careers. But Wiseman’s overflowing skill gives him a clear chance to become the best player from this draft or, at the least, on a comparable level, where it won’t be categorized as a mistake.
Only time will deliver the real answer. But who wants to wait until then to debate?
“Need that content, need that conversation right now,” Curry laughed. “I understand it’s all about rookie power rankings and all that stuff. I pray to God that they don’t watch that on a daily basis. They just play basketball and know they have a long career ahead of them, whether they’re 1, 2, 3, 4 right now, it really doesn’t matter. It matters how much they’re getting better, how much they’re falling in love with the work that comes with becoming a successful NBA player.”

‘Elam Ending’ returns: The NBA announced on Thursday that it will once again use the ‘Elam Ending’ format in this year’s All-Star Game. The league announced full details for the March 7 All-Star Game in Atlanta, with all events taking place over one night. The game will follow the same format as last year, with teams competing to win each quarter before playing to a final target score during an untimed fourth quarter. For the second consecutive year, the league will honor Kobe Bryant by setting the final target score at 24 points above the leading team’s score after three quarters.

Five-time Pro Bowl cornerback Richard Sherman seems to know he will need to find a new team this offseason.
Sherman, who recently finished his third season with the 49ers, told the Sacramento Bee, "It's been made pretty clear" he won't be back with the team next season, citing a recent conversation with 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan and general manager John Lynch.
"It was a good conversation, nothing crazy," Sherman said. "Just a good conversation about where they are and where I am, and their plans. We were both very positive and as good as you can be in a situation like this."
The 32-year-old cornerback played just five games last season after dealing with calf issues. He recorded just a single interception and 18 total tackles in 2020.
Sherman signed a three-year deal with the team prior to the 2018 season and is set to become an unrestricted free agent. He had spent the first seven seasons of his NFL career with the Seahawks and won a Super Bowl. He also made three All-Pro teams.
Sherman told ESPN's Stephen A. Smith earlier this month that he wants to play two more years with a competitive team.
"Very positive. It was an incredible chapter in my career and I got to meet and play with some incredible human beings," Sherman said of his time with San Francisco. "I met some phenomenal coaches, and obviously the relationships that were forged will be lifetime connection and my relationship with 'The Faithful' has obviously evolved during that time, which has been a pretty cool arc in the story. And I'm grateful for it."
As for the trade price, I agree Garoppolo would be more valuable to the Patriots than anyone else, which is why I’d be surprised if the 49ers had many suitors. It’s also my opinion the 49ers are bluffing as they repeatedly and publicly state their desire to keep Garoppolo. I think they just want to create some urgency on their asking price. Still, I’d be surprised if he cost more than a Saturday pick. Maybe desperation changes things, but I wouldn’t go any higher than a fourth-rounder.
Sam Darnold could be available for a team's second round pick.
The Jets are widely expected to use the No. 2 pick in the NFL Draft on Justin Fields or Zach Wilson, making Darnold expendable after Adam Gase nearly destroyed his career. League sources told SportsNet New York's Ralph Vacchiano that the Eagles trading Carson Wentz to the Colts for a third rounder and a conditional second rounder wouldn't change the Jets' asking price for Darnold. Vacchiano reports the Jets' asking price for their QB "has long been projected to be a second-round pick, plus maybe another mid-to-late rounder." Incredibly just 23 years old, Darnold could be an enticing target for a QB-needy team like Washington, who is reportedly interested in dealing for Darnold. It would be stunning if a team -- Washington or otherwise -- offered anything more than a second round pick for Darnold.
