That’s concerning if you’re an A’s fan. pic.twitter.com/
- Oakland. Stadium is gross, nothing around the ballpark. players feel like they have to live far away, San Francisco too far away to commute. It’s just a disaster. You look around and say this is the big leagues, really? Billy Beane is a little overrated. His reputation is built on a good book and a movie. Miguel Tejada was not a product of ‘Moneyball.’ They figured out analytics existed but didn’t know what to do with it. Oakland, that’s an easy one.

The Pelicans are off to an underwhelming 5-10 start in Zion Williamson’s second season and the report states that trading Ball and Reddick would free up minutes for promising guards Nickeil Alexander-Walker and Kira Lewis.
This would be the second time Ball — the No. 2 pick in the 2017 NBA Draft — would be traded. The former UCLA standout was one of the key pieces in the deal that sent Anthony Davis from New Orleans to Los Angeles.
Ball has showed flashes of meshing well with Williamson in the past, but is not seen as one of the centerpieces of the franchise. Ball has averaged 12 points and 4.7 assists this season in 12 games, while playing just under 32 minutes a night.

49ers send: 12th overall pick in 2021, 2022 first- and second-round picks (to Texans), 2023 third-round pick, S Tarvarius Moore, QB Jimmy Garoppolo (to Jets)
Jets send: QB Sam Darnold (to Texans), 2022 fifth-round pick (to 49ers)
Texans send: QB Deshaun Watson (to 49ers)
The 49ers can credibly suggest that they're Super Bowl contenders if they add Watson, who would be moving into a quarterback-friendly scheme with weapons galore. They might be in position to add a passer on a rookie deal, but Watson would be a bet that they can outscore anybody on offense. This would be a huge package, including four draft picks and two veterans, but general manager John Lynch and coach Kyle Shanahan haven't been shy about paying over the odds for the guys they want. If they want Watson, they aren't going to let a price tag get in the way.
Garoppolo has two years and about $50.4 million remaining on his deal, and given his recent injury history, he doesn't have much trade value beyond a midround pick. He's not much use to a rebuilding Texans team, although Caserio & Co. certainly know him from their time in New England. The Jets would seem like a curious choice, but Robert Saleh just spent three years with Garoppolo (and Moore) in San Francisco. The Jets could buy low on Garoppolo if they don't like any of the quarterbacks in April's draft class and then use the second overall pick on a wide receiver such as Ja'Marr Chase or DeVonta Smith.

The 49ers must play as well. They have a high-priced marginal asset in Jimmy Garoppolo, who many in the NFL might not view as a bonafide starter, which diminishes his value. Much like Gruden, Kyle Shanahan, the 49ers head coach, needs to decide if he will enter the quarterback market. I wrote last year that the 49ers entertained Tom Brady when he was a free agent before COVID destroyed the finances of most teams’ cap. Does Shanahan call Patriots head man Bill Belichick and make him an offer to get Garoppolo off his cap and enter into the Watson or Stafford sweepstakes? Shanahan must know Belichick will be knee-deep in the Stafford market, as will the Colts. If Shanahan has any interest in improving his quarterback position, he needs to unload Garoppolo first. He also knows New England might be his only suitor at the right price. Using Garoppolo’s cap number, Shanahan can be a player in any quarterback market, unlike the Rams, who are trapped.
The Rams must trim roughly $30 million of cap room if the cap stays the same. They are locked so tightly into Jared Goff that David Blaine, the magician, could not escape. Goff will be the albatross around head coach Sean McVay’s neck next season and moving forward. McVay needs to either make it work with him or find a younger, cheaper player and wait until Goff’s contract guarantees disappear after the 2022 season.
How the Rams got into this mess is worthy of an entire column. The CliffsNotes version is that they could not separate the system from the player. The Rams run a lot of play-action pass plays that most quarterbacks could make, and only a few require top-level skill. Goff makes all of those easy throws, which the Rams overpaid him for, but rarely made the hard throws when under pressure. As much as McVay would like to be in the quarterback market, Goff is untradeable not because of talent, but because of his contract. McVay will need to either repair his relationship with Goff, go with John Wolford or draft a young player.

His only past play-calling: Sean McVay gave him some in Rams' 2019 preseaso + Waldron was OC in 2011 at Buckingham Browne & Nichols School day school outside Boston
