Five observations: 49ers do just enough to let Aaron Rodgers beat them in the end

As a reminder: Illegal contact, the penalty that converted that third-and-15, is an @NFL point of emphasis this season. Flags for it have roughly tripled over last season.

TODAY:
You called three passes in a row at the end when the Packers had no timeouts. In retrospect, did you do anything wrong or was it just an issue of execution there?
“I don’t think it’s just as simple as that. You’re trying to win a game. Yeah, in hindsight when it’s over, anytime something doesn’t work, whether I like my play call or not, if it doesn’t work, you always wish you did something different. So, those three plays at the end, I knew it was the first time we had thrown it on first down in three consecutive series. I think we got a seven-yard gain to [TE George] Kittle over the middle. Then, the next second-and-three, I felt pretty strongly that they were going to come after us and bring more than we could handle in the run game, which usually leaves open a very good slant window. That’s what I thought was the best thing at the time. But, they tipped the ball. They tipped it and we didn’t get a chance to complete it, which was unfortunate. If I were to have it back, yeah, I’d love to call something that worked. But, then when you get into third-and-three versus an all-out blitz, there’s not many runs for that. That was the play that we didn’t make right there and that’s what happened. But, you’re always concerned about giving it back to [Green Bay Packers QB] Aaron [Rodgers]. But, I thought we had a chance to win the game right there. I was pretty happy with, I know our defense struggled in the first half definitely. I was happy with how they rebounded in the second half and they gave us a chance on offense to put them away. I thought that was our biggest opportunity right there and we came up short.”

-ALWAYS KNEW NO MATTER HOW HURT RODGERS WAS THEY WOULD WIN IF IT WAS WITHIN 1 SOCRE.
-SHOULD HAVE WON -- READ SOMETHING WHERE IT WAS A GOOD LOSS --THEY DON'T GET GRADED.
END 3 TIMES.
-RAMS NEXT - 1-6 THEN CARDINALS, RAIDERS, GIANTS ALL 1-5 AND 2-3 TAMPA.
-CJ ISN'T BAD.
-2 THINGS COST THEM: SHERMAN PENATLY AND GREG MABIN NOT UNDERSTANDING THE SIDELINE WAS HIS FRIEND 3X.
-CJ'S THROW WAS A PUNT INSIDE THE 8 ---NOT A BAD PUNT.
-THEY COULDN'T RUN WHEN THEY HAD TO.
-CJ ONE BAD THROW --MISSED KITTLE.
-RODGERS WASN'T HIMSELF -- BUT FOR ONE PLAY -- DEFO SACK, SHERMAN HOLDING, RODGERS RUN, 3 STRIGHT TO SIDELIENS TO BEAT MABIN WHO ALLOWED OUTSIDE RELEASES.....GAME OVER.
-49ERS BLITED 30% OF TIME --18% COMING IN
-SOLOMON THOMAS DL LOW 35 SNAPS --ALL DL PLAYED MORE.
-ACQUIRE AMARI FOR A #2? I WOULD.
--THEY NEED PLAMAKERS. IN ADDITION TO BRIEDA THEY NEED A RB, 2 PASS RUSHERS, 2 CBS, DEEP SAFETY,
