cousins update:
DeMarcus Cousins may not be on the court with his Warriors teammates yet, but Steve Kerr is doing everything in his power to make his newest All-Star feel at home with his Warrior teammates
The defending champs head to Utah Thursday afternoon for their first road trip of the young season, and Cousins will be on the plane. Kerr said Tuesday at practice that Cousins may not travel to every game, but plans on bringing him to most.
“He’s going on this (road trip),” Kerr said. “There may be a one game trip where maybe he’s better staying and getting work here. But the plan is for him to travel.”
Cousins is working back from a torn achilles he suffered in on January 26 while he was a member of the New Orleans Pelicans. Thursday Kerr said that Cousins is doing well in his rehab.
“He’s increasing his running, but he’s not working with the team right now,” Kerr said. “So he’s still doing individual stuff with Rick (Celebrini – the team’s head of sports medecine) and the training staff, and a lot of court work. But get got all that done before we sat down for film this morning at 11. So he’s doing it more individually.”
There is not solid timetable for Cousins to begin his on-the-court career with Golden State. The normal timetable for return from an ACL tear is nine months to a year. October 26 would be nine months after Cousins’ injury, but logic would tell us that the Warriors are in no rush to bring back their center until he’s fully ready to go.

The 49ers' edge rush has been almost nonexistent in recent years as they haven't had a player exceed 6.5 sacks since 2013 or reach double digits since 2012. San Francisco is in desperate need of a dominant "LEO" defensive end to complement tackle DeForest Buckner. At wideout, Pierre Garcon is under contract for 2019, but his $8.4 million cap number for next season might be untenable, and the Niners could move on. Either way, the offense could still use a reliable top target for Jimmy Garoppolo. Richard Sherman has been a strong addition at corner, but the Niners haven't gotten the step forward they had hoped from Ahkello Witherspoon, and Jimmie Ward continues to struggle with injuries and is a free agent in 2019. The 49ers could use a starting-caliber corner to pair with Sherman and potentially replace him some day at the team's No. 1. -- Nick Wagoner
