In the 2015-2017 drafts, the Raiders have now cut or traded four of their nine picks (TE Clive Walford, DL Jihad Ward, DE Shilique Calhoun, S Obi Melifonwu). Four others (Edwards, Joseph, Conley, Vanderdoes) are in the still-waiting-to-make-a-major-impact category.

-SABEAN TELLS THE TRUTH (330)

-BUSTER

We’re trying to schedule (surgery) as we speak,” Sabean told KNBR-680. “With the type of surgery he’s gonna have, which is a complete clean out of that hip, he needs as much recovery time as possible.”
Giants manager Bruce Bochy said before Thursday’s game that he would have Posey back in the lineup for Friday’s gameat home against the Rangers. However, it’s likely the results of Posey’s doctor’s visit in New York weren’t yet known.
Sabean admitted during his interview that it’s not a given that his All-Star catcher will be ready for the start of next season.
“Recovery time is six-plus months,” he said. “Hopefully he’ll start the season on time. That’s one of the fears, that you don’t want to lose additional time game-wise going into next year, whether it be the month of April or even May.”

-TIME TO MAKE SOME MOVES

We’ve gotta become more dynamic,” he added. “If that takes doing it with other players, we’re prepared to do that.”
Without naming names, the Giants exec pointed the finger at many hitters who have had down years.
“(We) were very respectful, if not doubled-down, on our core and for some reason we couldn’t keep them on the field,” he said. “And for some reason they weren’t playing to their baseball cards this year.”
The Giants don’t intend to be as forgiving about their roster composition next season.
“We’re more open-minded than ever whether it’s now or especially going into the off-season to shake things up,” Sabean said. “Guys are really playing for their place on the ’19 team right now.”
Giants fans dreaming of a Bryce Harper or a Manny Machado free-agent signing to ignite the offense will be very disappointed, according to Sabean’s way of thinking.
“Well it’s damn near impossible because on the free agent market a power hitter is not necessarily gonna want to come here,” Sabean said. “Because they know the park factor. if you want to be more cryptic about it, the people who have success here have to be pull hitters. They have to be right-handed pull hitters or left-handed pull hitters. That’s very tough to find.
“In reality, you either have to develop them or you have to trade for them,” he added. “Or it’s Plan B and you go with another style of offense, which is more based on line drives and doubles and being able to run the bases. We’re open now to really anything we can do to uptick this offense because this downturn we’ve had started with the second half of ’16 has really just (been) unacceptable.”
