GIANTS AS SELLERS: NO. A'S ANOTHER STORY -- (MOROSI)
GIANTS
Forty miles away, and making a U-turn: The Giants' inspired play over the past week is making a Trade Deadline selloff highly unlikely. San Francisco has won seven of eight games, including the past three by one run each.

Madison Bumgarner is in the final guaranteed year of his contract, with a $12 million club option for 2019. If the Giants made Bumgarner available, he would instantaneously become one of the most coveted players in the marketplace, but there is no indication that they will do so. In fact, their current strategy involves waiting on the returns of Jeff Samardzija and Johnny Cueto -- and preparing for a run at the NL West title or an NL Wild Card.
ATHLETICS
Fifteen miles away: Unless you're concerned about the A's bumping your team from a playoff spot, you're rooting for Billy Beane and David Forst to keep this squad together. They've been too enjoyable to watch this season, with talent and panache that remind us of memorable Oakland clubs of years gone by.

Yet, the Athletics' economic circumstances remain unchanged. Without construction underway on a new ballpark, players on expiring contracts -- Jed Lowrie, Jonathan Lucroy, Santiago Casilla -- could be moved. Closer Blake Treinen is in high demand, and Oakland's front office tends to err on the side of optimizing peak value, even with Treinen under control through 2020.

Dallas could create as much as $26M in cap space, which would include declining $5M option on Dirk and re-signing him to lower number, per @BobbyMarks42. Mavericks could be players for UFA's DeMarcus Cousins and DeAndre Jordan, and RFA's Julius Randle, Clint Capela, Aaron Gordon. twitter.com/ZachLowe_NBA/s…

Interesting free agent option for the Warriors if he can't find money elsewhere: Seth Curry. Fills a bench shooting need, recent injury history diminishes value in a market short on cash + I think he might have a GSW family link.
|
CHEAP GUYS: JAMAL CRAWFORD, GERALD GREEN, JOE HARRIS, RODNEY HOOD (RFA),
OWN GUYS: MCGEE, MCCAW, LOONEY, NERLENS NOEL, KYLE O'QUINN,
WOULD THEY TAKE LESS: JJ REDDICK, DWIGHT HOWARD,
Golden State Warriors

Offseason focus
- The structure of a new Kevin Durant contract: Short- or long-term?
- Building the bench: Six free agents (not including KD)
- The budget approved by ownership: Cost of the luxury tax
- Block out distractions: Klay Thompson (free agenct in 2019) and Draymond Green (2020) are unlikely to agree to extensions
Exception
- Tax: $5.3 million
Cap-space breakdown
- For the third consecutive year, Golden State will be a tax team.
- Signing Durant to a max contract and filling out the bench with minimum contracts would have the payroll at $147 million and a luxury tax bill of $60 million.
- Using the $5.3 million tax midlevel would add another $17 million to their tax bill. The tax bill could rise if they elect to bring back restricted free agent Patrick McCaw on a contract greater than the minimum exception.
Team needs
- Starting: C
- Backup: PF
Free-agent status
- Kevin Durant | Early Bird (player option)
- Nick Young | Non-Bird
- Zaza Pachulia | Early Bird
- JaVale McGee | Early Bird
- Kevon Looney | Fourth-year restriction
- Patrick McCaw | Restricted early Bird
- David West | Early Bird

GREEN CNN INTERVIEW: -0--TO ME ISN'T THE BEST WAY TO HAVE YOUR VOICE BE HEARD ON CHANGE IS TO GO DIRECTLY TO THE TOP?
TELL TRUMP HOW YOU FEEL.....
Green was then asked if the team would make the same decision to not visit the White House should they win the NBA Finals again next year.
"I know we would make the same decision and not go," Green said. "It's not about not seeing Donald Trump or anything else that goes with it but more so about what we stand for. In order to affect change, you have to stand for something...
"Our goal is to affect some change and use our platform to do that, which is why we chose not to go to the White House, because it would just be the status quo if we did."
