FEWER PASSES , MORE ISO:

58 fewer passes and 16 more isolation plays in the Conference Finals than they averaged all season prior to this series, according to Second Spectrum.

MORE:

The Warriors are averaging 78 fewer passes per game than they did in the Conference Semifinals against the Pelicans. Pace plays a big part of that as the Rockets have controlled tempo. Golden State is averaging 98.0 possessions per 48 minutes this series, down from a pace of 107.9 against New Orleans.
– One reason the Warriors have been passing less and going more isolation is the Rockets defense. According to Second Spectrum, the Rockets have switched on 67% of the Warriors on-ball screens in this series. On the season, Warriors opponents have switched on 22% of their on-ball screens (regular season and playoffs).
– The Warriors had 31 assist opportunities in Game 5, their fewest in a game this postseason. Golden State shot 58% (18-31) when the shot came directly off a pass and 34% (14-41) when it did not. The Warriors had an assist opportunity on just six of their 17 attempts in the fourth quarter (4-6 on those shots).
– Kevin Durant scored a game-high 11 points in the first quarter but faded after that. After attacking the rim early, Durant later settled for more contested pull-up jumpers. Durant is 1-9 in the fourth quarter, including 0-5 from 3-point range, in the last two games.
Durant has now shot under 40 percent in consecutive games after not doing that once in any of his first 28 playoff games with the Warriors. According to Second Spectrum, he’s averaging 12.4 isolations per game this series; he averaged 5.1 isolations this season before this series. In fact, three of his four highest totals for isolation plays since joining the Warriors have come in this series.
– The Warriors had as many turnovers as assists in Game 5 (18). This after they had more turnovers (16) than assists (14) in Game 4. Five times this season the Warriors have had as many or more turnovers as assists; two of those have come in their last two games. It’s just the second time they’ve done it in consecutive games under Steve Kerr and the first time since his first full month as head coach (November 8-9, 2014).
– The Warriors are 0-7 on game-tying or go-ahead FG in the final 5 minutes of the fourth quarter in the last two games, the only shots they’ve taken in those situations this postseason. They were 4-8 on those clutch shots last postseason.
– The Warriors have now lost as many games this series as they had in their previous six playoff series combined since Kevin Durant joined the team (three). It’s just the fourth time in four seasons under Steve Kerr that Golden State has trailed in a playoff series. The Warriors came out on top of the previous three.

ROCKETS:

The Rockets are 15-9 (.625) without Paul in the lineup this season and 61-12 (.836) with him.

, Harden may have to carry more of the load, which could be an issue as he’s in the midst of the worst shooting slump of his career. He went 0-11 from 3-point range Thursday, matching John Starks (Game 7 of the 1994 Finals) for the most 3-point attempts without a make in a playoff game all-time. Dating back to Game 4, Harden has missed his last 20 3-pointers, the longest streak of his career (regular season and playoffs).

NBA:

-CAN C'S WIN A ROAD GAME?

inancial implications of All-NBA honors
Joel Embiid made Second-Team All-NBA and thus will make $146 million on his five-year deal. He would have been bumped up to $176 million if he had made first team.
Anthony Davis, who made First-Team All-NBA, will now be super max eligible in 2019 for a deal that would start in 2020. ESPN’s Bobby Marks projects that deal to be worth $230 million over five seasons.
By making Third-Team All-NBA, Karl-Anthony Towns will now be eligible for a projected five-year, $188 million rookie extension this summer that would start in 2019-20. That’s about $31 million more than he would have been eligible for if he did not make an All-NBA team this year or next year.
The All-NBA teams also brought some good financial news for the Warriors, as neither Klay Thompson nor Draymond Green qualified for a super max since neither player made an All-NBA team this year. They can still qualify in a future year. Thompson has one year left on his contract and Green has two.
Bobby Marks also noted that if Paul George and Jimmy Butler had not been traded, their All-NBA selections would have made them eligible for super max contracts or extensions this offseason. Due to their trades, they are no longer eligible.

MLB/ GIANTS:

-WILLIAMSON IS THE LF , GORKY'S HITS HR HE'S IN CF AND CUTCH IS IN RF....

“He’ll get the lion’s share,” said Bochy, who put Williamson in the lineup for Friday’s series opener against the Cubs. “Of course, how they play dictates playing time, as always. As of right now, he will play left field for the most part.”
— Bumgarner remains scheduled to throw 45 pitches on Saturday for Sacramento, then start for High-A San Jose on May 31. He could return to the rotation June 5 against the Arizona Diamondbacks, or if he requires a third rehab start to build his pitch count, June 10 at Washington.
Panik is making terrific progress from surgery on April 30 to repair a torn left thumb ligament. He continues to swing a bat without pain and is likely to begin his minor league rehab work early next week. Bochy estimated Panik would need 25 to 30 at-bats, or eight to nine games. Sketching it out: he’s likely to be back by the time the Giants start a three-city trip June 8 at Washington, if not earlier. It helps that Panik’s injury is to his non-throwing hand, as well as his top hand while gripping a bat.
