Steve Kerr says there's "no way" Stephen Curry will play in the first round of the playoffs on.si.com/2pFeiKc

WARRIORS:

-CURRY GRADE 2 SPRAIN - 3 WEEKS EVALUATED -KERR SAYS HE'S OUT --LACOB SAYS WE'LL SEE --- IF HE'S HEALTHY IN 3 WEEKS AND DOCTORS SAY IT'S A GO , IT'S A GO.

-WARRIORS HAVE PLAYED WELL WITH EVERYONE BUT CURRY

-KERR SAYS WARRIORS CAN BEAT ANYONE W OUT STEPH ---WHY DID HE GET A $200m CONTRACT THEN?  THEY CAN'T BEAT ROCKETS W OUT HIM

KERR:

“Frankly, I don't need solace,” Kerr said. “I watched this team two years ago without Kevin win playoff games without Steph.
“We beat Houston in the first round and Steph missed four games. Played part of Game 1 and part of Game 4. Missed most of the series and we won in five.
“Then we played Portland in the next round and we won the first two games without him. So we know — and that team was different than now, but we didn't have Kevin Durant. So we're perfectly capable of beating anybody — regular season or playoffs, we can beat anybody without Steph.
“It's going to be hard to beat anybody without Steph, KD, Klay and Draymond. I'm going to have to coach a lot better for that to happen. But we're very confident that we'll get these three guys back soon and we'll hold down the fort and then some.

“I've seen some people run our record with Steph and without Steph,” Kerr said. “But how many of those losses did we not have Klay, KD or Draymond also?”
The answer: five. Curry has missed 22 games this season. In them, the Warriors are only a pedestrian 13-9. But five of those nine losses came without at least one of their other All-Stars.
“The best gauge for us playing without Steph is when we have everybody,” Kerr said. “Because then we have defined roles — we know we're going to play through KD a little bit more, we're going to have Draymond protecting the rim, Klay's going to be out there. So that record is deceiving.”
The stretch this team loves to point toward came in early December, after Curry went down with his first (and worst) ankle sprain of the season. They played the next 11 games without him. Draymond Green also missed five of those games.
But the Warriors still went 9-2, Kevin Durant dominated in a high-usage role and the defense had a 97.7 rating, best in the NBA over that stretch. Earlier this week, we took a closer look at that December run without Curry, which you can read by clicking here.
INJURY UPDATE:
Durant is also close. After Monday's practice, he was spotted going through his first contact drills since the rib fracture was identified, playing one-on-one mini games against the team's other bigs. That included him absorbing a bulldozing Zaza Pachulia back down.
Kerr labeled Durant doubtful for Tuesday, but called it more cautious than anything. Durant is probable for Thursday's game against the Bucks.
Thompson is the furthest away of the three, but he still may return by the end of the week. He went through practice on Monday with his right thumb taped up. In recent days, he's only been shooting with his left hand. After Monday's practice, he was spotted firing up 3s with his right hand. I'd guess he's back by Sunday or, at the latest, some time next week.

Nice job on your postgame interview with Leonard Hamilton, Dana Jacobson. Florida State did not foul, down four to Michigan with 11 seconds left, and let the clock expire. Of course it was highly unlikely that FSU would have won the game, or even have had a good chance to win. But giving up? I understand the heat-of-the-moment thing about postgame interviews, but it’s part of the business Hamilton chose. It’s ridiculous that Hamilton thought it wasn’t a fair question.

NFL:

-SHOULD 49ERS LOOK AT ODELL? NOT FOR A #1 BUT ---YES---

mentioneds browns, rams, 49ers 3rd:

San Francisco 49ers
Like the Rams, the 49ers have been as progressive and fun a team the past year as there has been in the league. They have their franchise quarterback locked up, so why not give him a go-to receiver? We easily could envision Jimmy Garoppolo and Beckham making some sweet tunes together.
To steal a line from my colleague, Arthur Arkush, the John Lynch-Kyle Shanahan duo might be the new John Schneider and Pete Carroll — ready, willing and able to take big cuts when they get their at-bats. The 49ers have a little momentum now and could just slam on the gas with this type of acquisition.
A side note: If this ever happened, would any franchise be able to top the all-time greatness the 49ers have fielded at wide receiver — Jerry Rice, Terrell Owens, Dwight Clark ... and possibly Beckham?

UPDATES ON FOSTER, WARD:

Lynch said that the 49ers will try Jimmie Ward at outside cornerback this offseason, a move which may hint at the confidence the team has in Adrian Colbert at the free safety position, and at potential paths of action at the draft.
“We're going to experiment with that this offseason,” Lynch said, “and see if that's viable.”
FOSTER:
Lynch also updated Reuben Foster's legal situation, saying that the 49ers are relying on the Santa Clara County district attorney's timeline in the linebacker's domestic violence. An announcement regarding charges has yet to be made.
“We've been in close contact with (Foster),” Lynch said. “He's doing a nice job.”

-JOSH MCDANIELS RULE: TEAMS CAN HIRE COACHES WHO ARE STILL IN PLAYOFFS, LIKE COLLEGE

Why can't they go back to pre 2009?

ON THE ANTHEM

It was fated to come to this. Patience in the NFL is wearing thin for protests during the anthem—actually, they are protests of the American condition, not protests of the American flag—and as owners gathered here on Sunday afternoon, the six-month-old protests about players’ activities during the anthem flared.
“Our playing fields are not the place for political statements,” said Texans owner Bob McNair. “There are fans that are upset about it. Fans are our customers. You can replace the owners and the league would survive. You can replace the players, although the game won't be good. You can't replace the fans. If you don't have the fans, you're dead.”
Said the owner representative of the Jets, Christopher Johnson: “I just think that trying to forcibly get the players to shut up is a fantastically bad idea.”
Look for the league to take this up at its May meetings. Commissioner Roger Goodell has been trying to straddle a fine line of allowing players to exercise their free will, while also not inflaming the situation with advertisers and fans who think the demonstrations during the anthem are unpatriotic. I don't see a way that this won’t end ugly.
