SEASON SERIES:

Golden State won the season series 2-1. … On Dec. 8, the Warriors defeated what was left of the Jazz 106-99 in Salt Lake City. Utah played without Gordon Hayward, Derrick Favors, George Hill, Rodney Hood and Alec Burks. The Jazz led 4-0 before the Warriors went on a 29-1 run. … On Dec. 20, Golden State overcame a horrid first quarter to easily defeat the Jazz 104-74. How ugly was that period? The Warriors uncharacteristically shot 26.9 percent (7 for 26) to lead 19-15 after one quarter. Their first points didn’t come until the 8:34 mark when Stephen Curry made two free throws. Their first field goal came with 7:54 left on a dunk by Kevin Durant. With 4:53 to go — more than half-way through the quarter! — Durant made two free throws to extend the Warriors’ lead to 8-5. … On April 10, Utah won 105-99 to end Golden State’s NBA season-high 14-game winning streak. Curry scored 28 points in three quarters as coach Steve Kerr went mostly with his reserves in the fourth quarter of a meaningless game. Klay Thompson did not play. This is the last game the Warriors have lost.

NEW PLAYERS:

The Utah team that Golden State sees tonight will be new to them. Derrick Favors, the Jazz’s best big man off the bench, missed all three games against the Warriors. He was huge off the bench Sunday in Game 7 against the Clippers with 17 points and 11 rebounds while Gobert was in foul trouble. All-Star forward Gordon Hayward, point guard George Hill and key reserve Rodney Hood each missed two games. Hill was particularly effective running the show against Los Angeles, averaging 16.9 points.

PACE:

his series could come down to which team can impose its will on the other regarding the pace of play. During the regular season, the Warriors played the fourth-fastest pace in the NBA, averaging 102.2 possessions per game. Utah was dead last at 93.6 possessions per game. In the playoffs, the Warriors have ramped it up to 104.9 possessions while the Jazz has slowed to 91.8. In the first round against the Clippers, Utah showed that it could be incredibly patient on offense, running the shot clock under four seconds countless times. That’s a lot of defense the Warriors potentially will have to play.
