TUESDAY: AUGUST 23RD - DODGERS SERIES

GIANTS:

-Preview

The Dodgers bats are hot since Kershaw went down and he's eligible to come off the DL Saturday ----

-Since Kershaw went down, the Dodgers are 28-19, the fifth best record in the MLB, while the Giants have done the exact opposite, going 19-28, the 28th worst record in the MLB during that stretch.
-
In Kershaw’s absence, Dodgers starters have an ERA of 5.12, which ranks as the 24th worst in the MLB over that span.

-BUT the Dodgers offense stepped up:

Corey Seager - Since Kershaw went down, he’s hitting .359 with a .967 OPS

Adrian Gonzalez, who homered three times yesterday, has been just as good, if not a little bit better, hitting .356 with a 1.012 OPS.

The Dodgers actually have five players with an OPS over .900 in the 47 games since Kershaw last made a start — Joc Pederson (.910), Justin Turner (.972), and Yasmani Grandal, who has been leading the way with a 1.082 OPS.

-Kershaw said that he felt “100 percent” after throwing a bullpen this past weekend.... he isn’t eligible to come off the 60-day DL until this Saturday

So everything is looking bad---which means it's the perfect place for the Giants to be.....

They run better from behind when no one epxetx anything from them....

POST SEASON SCHEULE ANNOUNCED -- WILL NOT INTERFERE WITH OCTOLBERTFEST

-Doc vs. Strawberry is interesting:

After Strawberry, 54, said on the radio he feared for Gooden’s life upon Gooden missing a WFAN interview Thursday, Gooden took the now-public matter into deeply personal territory. “He’s trying to take the heat off himself, people who [are] in glass houses do not throw stones,” Gooden told The Post on Monday night, saying he’s been clean four years, since coming out of rehab. “He’s cheating on his wife, he’s having an affair with people.”

“… Darryl has a drug rehab in his name, he is supposed to be a pastor. I call him Lucifer. … [Going public] was a weak shot, and he did it to make himself look better, because he is running a drug rehab.”

However, a Browns team source told Schefter that the team is not looking to trade Gordon.
Gordon said Tuesday that he doesn't want to be traded.
"I haven't heard too much about it," Gordon said. "Cleveland is my team. That's where I want to be, everything like that. That's not even in the ballpark for me. I'm not sure how that works."

NBA:

KLAY SICK OF TALKING SUPER TEAM:

“Yes. Yes,” Thompson replied when asked if he’s tired of answering questions about next season during an interview with GQ magazine. “I just want to go out there and prove to people how great we can be. Every day at the media session here I have to answer questions about it. ‘Oh, how’s the chemistry between you three.’ Everyday… But it’s part of the territory. I just give some automated answers. I can be pretty robotic. There’s a lot of hype surrounding the franchise now, and deservedly so. It’s part of our job, we have to answer those questions.”
Thompson interestingly was a bit standoffish in the immediate aftermath of Durant’s decision. He said he felt “disrespected” by all the talk concerning how he and his Warriors teammates would have to sacrifice shots and the like with Durant’s arrival.
“… I’m not sacrificing [expletive], because my game isn’t changing,” Thompson said, via The Vertical.
Thompson also mentioned in the GQ interview how landing Durant doesn’t take away the sting of blowing a 3-1 series lead to the Cleveland Cavaliers in the NBA Finals, saying, “It was hard” to get over it.

ROBINSON NOT READY TO PREDICT WARRIORS LONG RUN:

Kevin Durant will turn 28 years old on Sept. 29. Steph Curry doesn't turn 29 until March 14.
Klay Thompson and Draymond Green are both 26.
But according to Hall of Famer David Robinson, these four players won't be teammates for that long.
"If you're able to put together a team like this, you're generally going to have a short window because you can't pay all those guys to keep them together," Robinson told Complex Sports. "There's the short window that's going to end relatively quickly and it's not as easy as going out to play."
Curry will become an unrestricted free agent on July 1.
Klay is under contract for three more years with an average salary of $17.8 million, while Draymond will make an average of $16.9 million over the next four seasons.
Durant is on a two-year deal, but is expected to opt out next summer with the salary cap rising again.

And even if the Warriors' core remains together, David Robinson isn't about to predict a dynasty.
"It takes time," Robinson added. "You look at what happened with LeBron, Wade, and Bosh. It took them a year or two to get their legs underneath them and figure things out...
"It's not that easy and people can say what they want to say, but it's still up in the air. Nobody thought Cleveland would win the championship this year. There were four teams in the West they said they couldn't beat and they were down 3-1 and they came back and won so you just never know.
"You can't write the script."

OTHER:

NATE DIAZ COULD BE IN TROUBLE FOR VAPING IN PRESSER:

Nate Diaz could be in some hot water with USADA.

Diaz might be facing a UFC anti-doping policy potential violation for vaping cannabis at the UFC post-fight press conference Saturday night in Las Vegas, MMA Fighting has learned. Diaz was vaping on the dais and, when asked, said it was CBD, or cannibidiol oil.

“It’s CBD,” Diaz said after his majority decision loss to Conor McGregor. “It helps with the healing process and inflammation, stuff like that. So you want to get these for before and after the fights, training. It’ll make your life a better place.”

Cannibidiol is one of 113 active cannabinoids in cannabis. Cannabinoids are banned in-competition by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) Code over a certain threshold and USADA uses WADA’s prohibited substance list. In competition is considered the six hours before and the six hours after a fight. Diaz’s appearance doing post-fight media was within that timeframe.

“I can confirm that USADA is aware of the situation and is currently gathering information in order to determine the next appropriate steps,” USADA spokesperson Ryan Madden told MMA Fighting in a statement.

Cannabis is considered a “specified substance” by the UFC anti-doping policy. In other words, it’s not an anabolic or hormonal agent, but it is still prohibited in certain cases, like in-competition. An athlete violating the policy for a specified substance can face a suspension of up to one year, according to Article 10.2.2.
