WEEK 1 -
QB PLAY - WILSON, JACKSON, RODGERS

Can nfl QBs keep this up or will they get hurt?

Can quarterbacks sustain this pace?

Amazing fact for you: Wilson was one of five quarterbacks to lead his team in rushing on Sunday, all five of whom won their games. And Wilson is probably the least striking example of what’s happening here, since he had just three carries for 29 yards. Here are the other four …

• Josh Allen, Buffalo: 14 carries, 57 yards, TD.

• Lamar Jackson, Baltimore: 7 carries, 48 yards.

• Kyler Murray, Arizona: 13 carries, 91 yards, TD.

• Cam Newton, New England: 15 carries, 75 yards, 2 TDs.

And on top of that, four of the five had passer ratings that exceeded 100. Murray was the one exception there, and he got it together late and threw it well down the stretch.

JOE BUCK IS A HOFER - THAT HAD TO SEND SOCAIL MEDIA INTO A TIZZY.......

Joe Buck and his dad, legendary announcer Jack Buck, share the distinction as the only father and son to each call a Super Bowl on network television.

Tonight, they became the first father-son combination to receive the Pete Rozelle Radio-Television Award, which is presented annually by the Pro Football Hall of Fame in recognition of longtime exceptional contributions to radio and television in professional football.

“For 26 years, the entire lifetime of FOX Sports, Joe Buck has been a voice bringing the Game to life for fans of NFL football,” said David Baker, president and CEO of the Pro Football Hall of Fame, who surprised Buck with the announcement during halftime of Thursday night’s Cincinnati Bengals at Cleveland Browns football game played on the Centennial of the NFL’s founding. Buck was calling the game with partner TROY AIKMAN on NFL Network.

-HOF CLASS

HOF NOMINEES W 49ERS TIES:

Lynch, a hard-hitting safety during his years with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Denver Broncos, has been a finalist for seven consecutive years. He would appear to head into the next selection process as one of the favorites. Young was a first-time finalist in 2020.

The Pro Football Hall of Fame on Wednesday announced 130 nominees for the Class of 2021.

The list also includes these other former 49ers: Quarterback Jeff Garcia, running back Ricky Watters, tight end Brent Jones, defensive lineman Justin Smith, linebackers Patrick Willis and Takeo Spikes, defensive backs Merton Hanks and Tim McDonald, kicker Gary Anderson and punter Reggie Roby.

The top first-year eligible candidates for the Hall of Fame are quarterback Peyton Manning, wide receiver Calvin Johnson, defensive lineman Jared Allen and defensive back Charles Woodson.

NEW NOMINEES:

The Pro Football Hall of Fame hasn't even inducted its 2020 class yet, but despite that, it's already making plans for the class of 2021, which could end up being one of the most stacked classes in the history of the Hall.

The list of nominees for the class of 2021 was officially released on Wednesday and the biggest name on the list is definitely Peyton Manning. The two-time Super Bowl winner and five-time MVP is eligible for the first time this year. Manning is joined by a group of first-time nominees that also includes Charles WoodsonCalvin JohnsonCharles TillmanJared AllenJustin Tuck and Roddy White

Overall, there were 130 nominees.

The announcement of the HOF nominees is the first step in the process to select the next inductees into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. At some point in November, the Hall of Fame selection committee will be asked to trim the list down to 25 semifinalists. After that, the list will be cut down to just 15 finalists in January. Once the list of finalists is set, five of those players will eventually be voted in to the class of 2021. To be inducted, a finalist needs to receive at least 80 percent support from the 48-person selection committee.

The list of finalists will actually include 18 people. Besides the 15 modern-era finalists, the committee will also vote on whether or not to induct Drew Pearson (senior finalist), Bill Nunn (contributor finalist) and Tom Flores (coaching finalist). The HOF requires that between four and eight members get inducted every year.

WEEK 2-

RAIDERS OPEN THE DEATH START - ALLIGENT STADIUM AND GRUDEN HATES STAR WARS — LISTENERS?

Even though its namesake was blown up by the good guys — twice — Raiders coach Jon Gruden is doubling down on referring to his new stadium in Las Vegas as the “Death Star.”

“I think it’s a cool name for our stadium,” Gruden said, via Adam Hill of the Las Vegas Review-Journal. “I don’t give a damn about Star Wars. That’s what we’re calling our stadium and I don’t care what anybody else thinks. It’s a cool stadium, it’s a great name and we just have to play good when we’re in there.”

While Allegiant Stadium might be fully armed and operational, they won’t have fans yet to fully enjoy the experience of the new place. Players are digging it though, even if they’re too young (Gruden has no such excuse) to realize the historical impact.

“Looking at the stadium it does kind of remind me of something where Darth Vader is going to come out of a door or something like that,” tight end Darren Waller said. “I watched the movies with my dad, but I really don’t know too much about it.”

2- GIANTS -

-WIN AGAIN — BUT.....

INJURY TO YAZ??? - CAN THEY MAKE IT WITHOUT HIM?? (YES)

Mike Yastrzemski felt his right calf grab while striding in the batter’s box and was replaced after two innings. He is going for an MRI exam to determine the severity of the injury, but even his temporary absence would be felt as the Giants enter the final 11-game stretch with a critical series at Oakland this weekend.

THE GAME:

At least they’ll go into that series with a winning record. Wilmer Flores put them ahead with a two-run triple in the seventh inning, the Giants completed a three-run comeback and their bullpen was nearly flawless over seven innings while protecting a 6-4 victory over the Seattle Mariners at Oracle Park. The Giants have won seven consecutive games at 24 Willie Mays Plaza, even if they were officially the road squad for this two-game series after poor air quality forced its relocation from Seattle to San Francisco.

The relocation and postponement also forced the Giants to wedge their final 12 games into an 11-day span, which means that quality innings will be had at a premium. And after using six relievers to cover Drew Smyly a night earlier, the last thing Giants manager Gabe Kapler wanted was to stress his bullpen on Thursday. So Anderson’s ejection for arguing the strike zone amounted to more than a lack of composure. It was detrimental.

“Tyler knows that that just can’t happen,” Kapler said. “It puts us in a really tough spot. With that said, (Wandy) Peralta came up huge for us. As tough as that was, it was equally rewarding and in some ways inspiring to see him come out and give us the length that he did.”

Peralta threw 49 pitches over three shutout innings and mesmerized the Mariners with his change-up. Giants relievers combined to hold the Mariners to three hits, three walks and a hit batter while striking out nine in seven innings.

Nobody was more relieved and appreciative of their performance than Anderson, who expressed contrition.

“Yeah, that’s my mistake,” Anderson said. “In a situation when our ‘pen’s short, that absolutely can’t happen. It wasn’t intended at (the umpire) but it just can’t happen. … Our whole ‘pen and our offense, we were put in a really bad situation because of me.”

PITCHING SCHEDULE:

The Giants will start Logan Webb, Kevin Gausman and Johnny Cueto in their weekend series against the A’s. Gausman came out of his side session with no disqualifying setbacks. And although Cueto is battling some hip soreness, he was able to throw on the side under the watch of Kapler, pitching coach Andrew Bailey and head athletic trainer Dave Groeschner.

If the Giants were to stay on turn, they’d start Smyly, Anderson, Webb and Gausman in the following home series against the Rockies. Then they would have Cueto to start one of two games on Sept. 25, when they will officially make up their remaining postponed game against the San Diego Padres as part of a twi-night doubleheader. In theory, they could activate Jeff Samardzija or someone else as their extra guy to start the second game. Smyly and Anderson would be lined up for the final two games of the regular season.
