MONDAY MAY 22 2017

GUESTS:

TOPICS:

4 PM Giants pregame

-Diamond notes:

Starting Pitchers:

ON THE MOUND: LHP Ty Blach will make his sixth start of the season and
the eighth start of his career...the 26-year-old is coming off his irst win
of the season, when he limited the Dodgers to one run in 7.0 innings last
Tuesday...since joining the rotation on April 25, he's 1-2 with a 4.03 ERA.

Digging into the stats:

VS. RIGHTIES : San Francisco is 10-16 this season against right-handed
starting pitchers, including a 3-11 record on the road (two of those three
wins have come on this road trip)...the Giants are hitting just .226 against
right-handed pitching in 2017, the lowest igure among NL teams.

FLASHING THE LEATHER: The Giants have been very good defensively as
of late, with no errors in their last seven games and just one miscue in
their last 10 contests...SF has committed the third-fewest errors of any big
league team this year (21).

CLOSE CALLS: 11 of the Giants' last 14 wins have come by two or fewer
runs...SF has played 24 games this year that have been decided by two
runs or fewer, tied for the ifth-most in the Majors (BAL with 28).

ON REHAB: IF Conor Gillaspie (back spasms) is 2-for-10 in three games
with triple-A Sacramento...IF Aaron Hill (right forearm strain) is 2-for-5
with two runs scored in two games with the River Cats...Hill had gone
2-for-8 (.250) with four runs scored, two doubles and three walks in three
games with the SJ Giants prior to being transferred to triple-A.

Health:

Hunter Pence is eligible to come off the disabled list on Tuesday, but Giants manager Bruce Bochy does not expect to have his right fielder at any point during the upcoming four-game series against the Chicago Cubs at Wrigley Field.
Pence hasn’t begun jogging to test his strained left hamstring. Given that he required surgery when he ruptured tendons in his right hamstring last season, the team is taking no chances with him.

DO WARRIORS FANS SOMETIMES HAVE TO PINCH THEMSLEVES THAT THIS IS REALLY THE WARRIORS WERE TALKING ABOUT DOMINATING THE LEAGUE?:

The Warriors are one win away from becoming the first team in NBA history to start a postseason 12-0.
The Warriors would be the first team since the 2001 Lakers to enter the NBA Finals unbeaten in the playoffs. The only other team to do it under the current playoff format (since 1983-84) was the 1989 Lakers.
This is the third time the Spurs have trailed 3-0 in a series under Gregg Popovich. In each of the previous two times, the Spurs were swept (2001 Conference finals vs. Lakers and 2010 Conference semifinals vs. Suns).
The Warriors would be the first team since the Heat (2011-14) to appear in at least three straight NBA Finals.
Golden State would be the first franchise from the West other than the Lakers to make the Finals in three straight seasons. The Lakers, who have accomplished the feat six times, last did it from 2008-10.

VANQUISHING THE SPURS MYSTIQUE EVEN WITHOUT A HEALTHY SPURS TEAM?

Prior to that stretch, the Warriors were 3-38 over their previous 41 road meetings with the San Antonio Spurs. In fact, the Spurs are still 27-4 against the Warriors at home since moving to the AT&T Center in 2002.
The Warriors have won five straight road games in the playoffs. It’s their longest road winning streak in franchise postseason history.
Overall, the Warriors are 26-1 in their last 27 games dating back to the regular season. Golden State’s lone loss over the last two months was at home on April 10 to the Jazz, whom the Warriors swept a few weeks later in the conference semifinals.
The Warriors’ last road loss was to the Spurs on March 11. Golden State’s starting lineup that night included Patrick McCaw and Kevon Looney as Stephen CurryKlay ThompsonKevin DurantDraymond Green and Andre Iguodala did not play in that game.

INSIDE THE SERIES: Including the postseason,
the Giants have just one win in their last 10
games here at Wrigley Field, going 1-5 last
season...during this 1-9 stretch, the Giants have
been outscored by a 40-25 margin...however,
SF has won ive of the last nine regular season
meetings overall with the Cubs (home & road

THE ROCK ON LOSING HIS VIRGINITY:

That really happened?
Yes, my friend. We shouldn’t have been in the park in the first place. All of a sudden, a big spotlight came on us. Bang. You hear the cop roll down the window and say, “Ma’am, are you okay? Will you come to the car?” She gets dressed, comes to the car. They say, “Are you being attacked?” She says, “No, that’s my boyfriend.” It was a complete nightmare. [Laughs] Some stories are beautiful, but mine was not.
