FRIDAY:

GUESTS:

-Giants pregame 6:15

WHAT'S NEXT
Mets: Seth Lugo will pitch in place of Steven Matz for the Mets on Friday at 10:15 p.m ET. Matz scratched from his scheduled start because of a shoulder issue. Lugo is 0-1 with a 2.65 ERA in nine appearances this season. Yoenis Cespedes and Asdrubal Cabrera are expected to be back in action for the Mets.
Giants: San Francisco will give the ball to right-hander Johnny Cueto, the NL starter in this year's All-Star Game, in Friday's 7:15 p.m. PT matchup. Cueto has struggled since then, recording two quality starts in six second-half outings.

GIANTS: SO MUCH FOR THE 6 RUN UNDER - 10-7 WIN......

-Bum came in w a 21 inning scoreless streak vs Mets, DeGrom was 3-0 0.84 vs. Giants....

-Bum's bomb off DeGrom
-Won first game of a series
-Won by more than one run
-When Riggiano hit the granny ---Here we go again....

The inconsistent bullpen started giving the lead back. The Mets scored three times in the sixth, but Derek Law worked out of a jam in the seventh and Sergio Romo continued his red-hot streak with two strikeouts in the eighth. Buster Posey provided some breathing room with a two-run double in the eighth.
Starting pitching report: Bumgarner allowed four earned runs in a home start for the first time all year and pitched just five innings. His ERA jumped from 2.11 to 2.25, which is still good.
Bullpen report: Cory Gearrin’s first night back didn’t go well. Gearrin gave up two singles and a long fly ball to center before being replaced. Both runners scored.
At the plate: Bumgarner has homered off deGrom, Zack Greinke and Clayton Kershaw (twice) in the last three seasons. Per ESPN Stats and Info, the only other big leaguers to get to all three All-Stars are Carlos Gonzalez and Giancarlo Stanton.
In the field: Angel Pagan had a weird sixth inning. He took a bad route to Ty Kelly’s liner and turned it into a triple, but he also kept the tying run off the board by chasing down T.J. Rivera’s fly to the track.

Mets:

DeGrom vs. Bum
  vs Cueto
Colon vs. Moore
SAamardzija vs. TBA (Syndergaard?)

Dodgers:

Right now -

Carlos Gomez being discussed per Jon Heyman....

Astros released the 30-year old outfielder last week after he struggled all season in Houston, hitting .210 with five home runs and 29 RBI. Gomez was traded to Houston in 2015 after spending his whole career in Milwaukee. Gomez can provide a power bat off the bench, as well as above average defense in the outfield.

MLB:  DEAR COMMISH - YOU ETHER LIKE SOMETHING OR YOU DON'T.....

STOP FUCKING WITH THE GAME ---MAKE REPLAYS FASTER---DONE:

-IS IT WORTH SAVING 10 MINUTES TO MESS WITH THE GAME LIKE THIS?

Commissioner Rob Manfred said that baseball is contemplating everything from altering the strike zone to limiting the number of pitching changes in a game, to curtailing the number of shifts, to even installing 20-second time clocks for pitchers.

“We feel it’s been effective in the minor leagues,’’ Manfred said. “You look month-by-month in terms of where we were in terms of game time, we did really well early and kind of regressed the second half of last year, and certainly this year.

“The more we can have on the field, constant reminders so it’s in front of people’s minds, the better off we are in terms of continuing to move the game along. And I think the clock is probably the quintessential example of the reminder that keeps pace in people’s minds.”

OLYMPICS: USA VS SPAIN  82 -76

The streak: Make it 75 wins in a row and counting for Krzyzewski. That includes 23 consecutive victories in Olympic play, 19 in FIBA World Cup tournaments, 10 in Olympic qualifiers and another 23 in exhibition games. The Americans previously tasted defeat in the semifinals of the 2006 FIBA World Championship against Greece, then launched this streak on Sept. 2, 2006, with a 96-81 victory over Argentina in the bronze-medal game in Japan.
Numbers game: Team USA is now 12-0 against Spain in the Olympics, its most wins against any one nation.

What's next: For the 16th time in its 18 appearances in the men's Olympic basketball tournament, Team USA is in the title game.
The Americans will play the Australia-Serbia winner in Sunday afternoon's final after the other two Group A teams that reached the Final Four settle their Friday night semifinal.
Australia beat Serbia by 15 points in pool play and, of course, was the first team here in Rio to expose the United States' vulnerabilities in a 98-88 defeat on Aug. 10.
The Aussies are trying to win their first Olympic‎ medal in basketball, having reached the semifinals three times previously (1988, 1996 and 2000) and losing the bronze-medal game each time.
"I will say this is the best chance we have of medal game," Australian legend Andrew Gaze told ESPN.com, stopping short of calling this the Boomers' strongest-ever squad. Gaze made five trips to the Olympics, three of them after NBA pros were granted eligibility to participate starting with the 1992 Olympics in Barcelona.

Line: USA -13.5 (-1200), Spain +700, 186.5

LOCHTE 'S APOLOGY IS SHIT ---I'D MAKE HIM COME BACK IF I WAS BRAZIL............
-One swimmer had to pay nearly 11K to get back

Not really an apology at all, still claims he was robbed

Two of the other swimmers, Gunnar Bentz and Jack Conger, were on their way Friday after being held in Brazil to testify. The fourth, Jimmy Feigen, made a deal with a judge to make a $10,800 payment and leave, his lawyer said.
Local organizers and the mayor of Rio de Janeiro said they accepted Lochte's apology.
"My feeling is one of pity," Mayor Eduardo Paes said. "They did not represent the American athletes that are here."
The drama -- and ever-changing descriptions of the alleged robbery -- deeply angered Brazilians, who said it cast a pall on their city and their Olympics. The saga also dominated Olympic headlines, overshadowing accomplishments of athletes who trained for years and set records. The situation was an enormous embarrassment for the U.S. Olympic team, which has dominated in winning medals.

LAWYER STILL CLAIMS HE WAS ROBBED:

RIO DE JANEIRO – Ryan Lochte is more victim than villain and he did not lie about being robbed at gunpoint, the American swimmer’s attorney told USA TODAY Sports.

Jeffrey M. Ostrow, a Fort Lauderdale-based lawyer representing Lochte, said Lochte's apology on Friday should not be viewed as a full mea culpa. Authorities in Rio should be investigating the two security guards who pulled weapons on the U.S. swimmers and demanded payment for damage to a bathroom door handle, he said.
“I don’t consider things done. I know that investigation is still going. I hope that there is more that comes out of it, find out a little bit more about the security guard or the military police or whoever it was specifically that extorted the money from (the swimmers)," Ostrow said.

Lochte stands behind his assertion that he and his teammates were held at gunpoint and robbed Sunday. That account is supported by surveillance video of what took place at the gas station in Rio de Janeiro, Ostrow said.
“That part of the story will never
change,'' Ostrow said during a telephone interview. "We stand behind that."

I think that there’s two ways you can look at it,’’ Ostrow said. “You can look at that my client and the other swimmers are in another country being yelled at in Portuguese with a gun pointed at them, and the gun was pointed right at Ryan. And that when they’re being told to give up their money in another language with a hand signal 'money,' that looks like a robbery.
"Whether it was warranted from the side of Brazilians or not, that’s robbery. From my client’s respect, that’s what happened."
“From (the Brazilians’) respect, I can see that would be turned to, ‘No, we were just telling him don’t leave and pay us because we think you all did some damage.’ It could be interpreted both ways, and it’s not fair for people to jump to conclusions that it was one way or another.
“All we know for sure is the account that Ryan gave and the swimmers gave, that they were held at gunpoint, was supported by that video and they were forced to give up money

NBA:

-LeBron says Jordan gets too much credit for Bulls titles

Speaking of Jordan, James said he along with Ken Griffey Jr. and Deion Sanders were the players he looked up to most as a child. However, James also suggested Jordan gets too much credit sometimes for the six championships the Bulls won with him, or at least Scottie Pippen and other role players do not get enough credit.

-LeBron took 5,000 kids to an amusement park

Essence magazine has all the details of James’ efforts to turn a regular summer for Ohio children into one that they absolutely will never forget.
Just because basketball season is over doesn’t mean LeBron James is hibernating until winter! In fact, the newly resigned $100 million basketball player was out and about in Akron, Ohio, yesterday treating 5,000 students and their families to a day at Cedar Point amusement park, “the rollercoaster capital of the world.”
The Cleveland Cavaliers power forward gifted the kids — who are a part James’ Wheels for Education and the Akron I Promise Network — and their families with a fun-filled day of rides, and screams to match, as part of the LeBron James Family Foundation’s We Are Family Reunion.

-Would you get in a self driving UBER?

It turns out Uber has been making very rapid progress on its plan to replace its one million-plus drivers with computers. Bad news if you’re an Uber driver…
In an interview with Bloomberg, CEO Travis Kalanick revealed that the company is preparing to add self-driving cars to its fleet of active drivers in Pittsburgh as soon as this month.
The company will deploy around 100 modified Volvo XC90s outfitted with self-driving equipment. Each vehicle will be staffed by one engineer, who can take the wheel as/when needed, and a co-pilot to observe and take notes. There will also be a “liquid-cooled” computer sitting in the trunk recording trip and map data.
